We have a very important announcement to make!
The Happy Birthday ____! Blogs are going up for adoption.
The mods of happybirthdayrei, happybirthdaynagisa and happybirthdayaiichirou are retiring from fandom work. Our lives are getting busier and demanding more time from us and we simply cannot dedicate any more to these blogs, much as we’d like to. We also think that we were not properly equipped to mod all three of these blogs; the Free! Fandom has many sub-sections and we don’t have connections to all of them. So we are giving up the blogs to go to new owners, who will be able to host these events for a long time – as long as the fandom exists, we hope! We will do our best to make sure they go to the right homes.
Having said that, we don’t want just anyone to come ask for the moderator post. There are a lot of things to consider, as we’ve learned after modding these events, and we’d like you to consider them seriously before contacting us. Responsibilities of mods usually entail:
- Contacting artists and fandom BNFs for promos
- Maintaining steady activity during promo period (which usually begins at least a month before the event itself, ideally)
- WORKING YOUR BUTT OFF DURING THE EVENT. This is the main thing, honestly. Whatever type of event you will host, on the days of the event itself, you’ll have to dedicate yourself entirely to Tumblr. We had to hire additional moderators to do this for the biggest of the three events (Rei’s Birthday). It’s honestly really difficult to do this so be warned.
- Maintaining the blog: this includes keeping your tag system manageable and uncomplicated (we really do not recommend commenting in the tags), switching out the ask link for the hiatus link after the end of the event, updating the FAQ/About page, etc. This requires some rudimentary knowledge of HTML coding.
We’ve more or less set up the blog to be simple and easy-to-use for anyone, but at least one mod will need to have rudimentary knowledge of HTML. We’ve also set up simple tag systems for all three of the blogs, but you can keep our system or discard them as you please. Make use of xkit extension for this!
If you want to mod any of the blogs:
- Send an ask to the blog that you want to claim. If you want to mod more than one, send separate asks to each blog.
- We will not accept anonymous asks.
- Template: Hi, I’m (name) and I’d like to claim this blog.
- We’d like to have a conversation with you before passing the blogs on, so if you use a chat client (or Twitter), please state your username in your ask so we can contact you off Tumblr. If you want to use email, that’s cool too! We’ll need to have your email address anyway to add you as a moderator to the blog, so it’s best if we don’t talk on Tumblr about this stuff because messages get eaten. Skype, LINE, Twitter DM, are preferred.
