Mission Trip to Nicaragua
Nicaragua Day 1: Beginning the day at the Managua Hills Hotel, team Nica’s ears were opened to the sounds of anything tropic. The birds, insects, & monkeys gave the official welcome that the NET team is no longer in the quiet winter of the United States. After eating an authentic Nicaraguan hotel breakfast, team Nica made their way to St. Augustines Preparatory Highschool. Here the team will complete 7 retreats for grades 6th-12th over the course of 9 days. Feeling like celebrities, the team was given a tour of the school, where the students were ecstatic about meeting anyone from the United States. Following the tour, team Nica scanned and planned the retreat site of the following day. The day finished with a quick swim in a volcano lake, (a 900 foot deep lake formed in the center of an erupted volcano), and listened to howling monkeys that sound strikingly similar to the sand people in Star Wars. All in all, the team of 8 are settled in and ready to show the youth of Nicaragua a new perspective of the Catholic faith, and to explain the importance of being radically in love with Jesus Christ.
