What was shocking to me was realizing how many leftist, especially young leftists, seem to be almost a parody of what Fox News thinks leftists are.
They are less interested in improving people's lives than in finding who to blame for their problems. They think having the wrong identity makes you inherently a bad person. They think people who are oppressed should never have to take responsibility for anything.
Everything we've spent years or decades insisting leftists don't actually do or believe, there are now people pouring out of the woodwork, loudly proclaiming, "Yes, we do."
And I've come to a conclusion about these people.
These are not people who are leftists because they've read the theory, carefully thought through what it was saying, and what they did and did not agree with, and developed their beliefs.
These are people who grew up hearing about what a leftist was--maybe from their family, maybe from their community, maybe from Fox News-- and that a leftist is the worst thing a person can be. Then, at some point, they realized that their family or community or the news was full of shit. They looked at all the flaws in the ideas that they were raised with, and decided, if these people are wrong, then the correct answer must be whatever they hated most--a leftist.
Except that they never take the further step of asking, "was my family (or community, or the news) wrong about what leftist believe."
That part they never question.
The reason so many of them seem to be a Fox News version of a leftist is that's exactly what they are.
