Larisa Iordache’s reaction to the selection of Catalina Ponor for the Olympics
Larisa Iordache didn’t feel disheartened when she learned that Catalina Ponor was going to represent Romania in Rio.
“To be honest, I was expecting it. I’ll keep training, competing (the other two competitions she was supposed to do with Ponor before the federation was going to choose between them), and hopefully keep progressing until I reach my initial form, my 100%,” Larisa told Dolce Sport.
The Romanian Olympic Committee has agreed to send Iordache to the Olympics regardless, as an alternate for Catalina Ponor.
“To me, it’s important that I’m still going to Rio. My spirit keeps burning because I’m doing what I like. I’m doing gymnastics and I hope - from the bottom of my heart - to go back to my initial form. To be in shape in Rio and to show everything I’m able to do.”
“Plus, I don’t want to miss this opportunity because in gymnastics terms I’m considered old at 24, so who knows if I will make another. But then Beth Tweddle competed until she was 28, so I could have another Olympics in me. Either way, I’m not ready to think about retiring yet - I’d miss it too much.” - Becky Downie

Flavia’s amazing on beam and floor and I need her on the floor podium. Plus, I can’t wait to hear the Brazilian crowd cheering for her when she kills it. Did I mention she’s literally the cutest person ever?
Confirmed for Rio - Individuals, Part 6
The countries ranked 19 through 24 at the 2015 World Championships were given two individual spots at the Test Event, but only one at the Olympics. North Korea is the exception, as they had already qualified an individual through Hong Un-Jong’s silver medal in the vault final.
