There’s this one lady at my work whom is almost 50 and she’s such a fucking hypocritical gossip and it’s driving me nuts. She talks shit about the owner and the manager behind their backs as well as every staff member in the whole joint BUT THEN SHE DENIES IT WHEN SHE GETS CALLED OUT ABOUT IT Drives me INSANE

I’ve spent the last two days feeling pretty sick. Sick about the rape culture we live in, sick that the fan community that’s built up around a fictional version of Patrick Kane is breaking down, and sick that this character I’ve used to say things that are so important and primal to me has been poisoned by his real-world counterpart.

I have 30K words of a new Patrick/Jonny fic that I finished drafting just before the news broke. It’s about Patrick’s frustration at not having a soulmate in a world where everyone else seems to have one. I didn’t write this story because of any specific love or admiration for Patrick Kane. I wrote it, like I wrote my other stories, to say things I couldn’t say anywhere else. It gave me a way of screaming into the void – of turning some painful things into laughter, others into angst, of wrapping it all up in a happy ending. The idea of posting it at this point is repellent. But the idea of not posting it is killing me a little.

What do I do here? I doubt I’ll ever write anything new about this pair. But this story already exists. I’ve used these two characters – the fictional, fannish versions of them – to tell a story I desperately wanted to tell. Now I have to decide if I’m going to bury that story in a draft file forever.

If you have thoughts on this, please let me know. I’m feeling very torn and would love to have a conversation about it.
