Herbs you can grow indoors.

Made this list for my fellow witchies who like their kitchen to be full of the green stuff :

  1. Basil : like lots of sun and warmth. More difficult to grow in the winter months
  2. Bay : needs plenty of sun and fresh air.
  3. Chives : needs at least 6 hours of sun and plenty of water.
  4. Dill : prefers slightly acidic soil, needs plenty of sunlight, doesn’t need too much water.
  5. Lemongrass : My personal favorite as you don’t plant it in soil. Grow in a couple of inches of water. Easiest to grow.
  6. Mint : needs plenty of water and needs to be placed in an area with indirect light. Harvest frequently.
  7. Oregano : does not deal well with cold and drastic temperature changes could kill it.
  8. Parsley : Doesn’t require too much light or maintenance, but is a slow grower.
  9. Rosemary : needs 6 - 8 hours of strong, direct sunlight. Only water when the top layer of soil feels dry. Needs good ventilation. A bit trickier to grow.
  10. Sage : Needs plenty of sun.Β
  11. Thyme : Needs 6 - 8 hours of sunlight a day and maybe even supplemental light.

What to do when you fell out with your practice

Because I sure as hell needed this post when I did.

1. Realize that itβ€˜s okay. Accept that it happened. Forgive yourself for it.

Maybe life got in the way and you just didnβ€˜t have the time or energy or possibility. Maybe something happened on your path that got you scared, frightened, panicked, or even disgusted so that you had to take a step back and retreat. Maybe your focus simply shifted. Maybe you got bored. Maybe everything just got overwhelming and you werenβ€˜t able to juggle magick and the mundane at the same time. Maybe mental illness got in the way. No matter what the reason for your fall out was, accept that it happened, forgive yourself for it. Because itβ€˜s okay, life happens in phases, and no matter the reason, how big or how small, itβ€˜s part of your journey and totally fine. These things happen to the best of us, so donβ€˜t blame yourself for it. It really is okay. Pinky promise.

2. Reconnect with your god(s) and/or non-physical friends, if needed.

If youβ€˜re a spirit companion/have spirit friends like me or are devoted to a god or certain deity/ies, your time with them/devotion to them probably fell under the brick as well. If it did, reconnect. I promise chances are theyβ€˜ll understand. As I said, life happens, and they know that too. They probably saw what you were going through. Explain what happened to them, apologize, and move on, if they allow it. Just spend more time with them again, greet them good morning and wish them good night again, invite them to join you throughout your day again. I promise, any good relationship will hold, just show that you really are sorry and put in effort to show that you care again. I’m sure they missed you as well so it’s time to make up for the time you lost!

3. Don’t overwhelm and overestimate yourself.

Chances are the longer your fall-out was, the more yourΒ β€œpsychic muscles” lost in strength. Your intuition may be a bit more out-of-tune, you may have more trouble hearing/seeing/feeling/sensing spirits and energies. Maybe you have more trouble programing things or adding energy to objects than before. That’s okay! It’s totally fine and normal, just don’t be surprised if it happens and know that with practice you’ll be back to old strength in no time! Until then, start small and work with what you have.

4. Start small, don’t rush it, one step at a time.

Start drawing a daily or weekly card again. Start carrying crystals with you again. Start laying them out under the moon to charge again. Do small rituals like maybe doing some bath magic before you rush head-first into a huge complicated thing again! Again, you don’t want to overwhelm yourself. Also, you want to build a routine again to not risk falling out again. Some ideas on what to do when building your practice up again:

  • lay crystals, items, water, anything out under the moon/sun to chargeΒ
  • talk to plants
  • draw a daily/weekly card
  • pick a crystal to carry with you throughout the day in the morning
  • say mantras in the morning
  • infuse your tea/coffee with intent
  • send out your energetic sensers when comfortable and at home. slowly but surely
  • meditate. 5 minutes in the evening, 5 minutes in the morning. at least.
  • go for a daily walk at a certain timeΒ
  • look through your grimoire/bos if you have one. write in it again
  • doodle little sigils in your free time
  • and many, many more

5. If needed, make a schedule.

As I said, you may want to build a routine. If those work for you, make a daily or weekly plan. Look up transits and check when you have time, then create your own magical schedule. If need be, set some reminders on your phone. Just try to be disciplined about it for a while so that you get back into your practice smoothly!

6. Reinvent your craft.

You probably changed since you last practiced, or maybe there was a reason IN your practice that caused the fall-out. If so, identify what it was. Reflect on yourself, your practice, your life. How can you make everything run together more smoothly? Maybe you want to focus more on the mundane than the spiritual, and if so that’s totally fine. Adapt your practice in a way that fits and feels good, it’s all yours so feel free to do whatever you want! Maybe you want to shift the focus IN your practice, or maybe you want to stop doing something, maybe start doing something else (instead).Β

(Optional) 7. Talk to others.Β

Sometimes it is so, so hard to not feel incredibly bad and like you fucked yourself or your life or your relationships up when this happens (and not just in relation to magic but other things as well). Please know that you’re not alone on this and if your own up-lifting thoughts and words are not enough, seek validation outside. I promise that’s not a selfish or vain thing to do, it’s natural and human and you deserve to be told that you’re doing just fine. Go to a trusted friend, family member, maybe blogger, anyone. If you want, you can always come to me. Talk to someone about how things are going now, talk to them about the things you just did to make yourself feel good about doing this.Β

πŸ’— No matter what, it’s all good. I promise. These things just happen and there is no reason to blame yourself - please take good care of yourself and know that you come first - magic and everything else second.Β  I hope this was useful to some, I know it helped me as I’m just getting out of a fall-out, too. I hope you all have a magical day~!Β πŸ’—

The light coming in my window this morning is pale and hopeful. I am warm and I have more blankets than I need. All I can say is thank you. Thank you.

I just want to live in a little stone cottage in the mountains that’s so overtaken with plants that it’s unrecognizable as a house until you get close to it and have a small little flock of sheep and some ducks and a couple of giant dogs to keep me warm and I’ll make natural medicinal remedies that I’ll take to town every so often with my big dogs following me so people are intimidated but also oddly comforted and eventually I’ll just become a local cryptid

Oooh me toooo

How to make a Yule Log!πŸŽ„β„οΈπŸ“

Yule Logs are a great addition to your Yule altar :) You can also burn them on the winter solstice in a magical bonfire!

You can customize your log anyway you want, so long as you use materials safe to burn (no plastic or synthetics). Try going on a scavenger hunt in nature to find more inspiration. If available, you can go as far as to choose the log basedΒ on the magical properties of the wood, such as oak for wisdom and pine for prosperityπŸ””

Here’s some ideas to add to your logΒ πŸŽ„

❄️Mistletoe

❄️Cinnamon

❄️Pine cone

❄️Dried fruits (cranberries, orange peels)

❄️Feathers

❄️Cloth Ribbon

Happy Winter Solstice my loves <3

Hi so i commented this but figure an ask would be better. So i haven't been practicing a lot because of my mental health (apparently my depression is pretty severe?) but now i am a bit more interested but i am at uni and my old practice involved candles, sigil burning, herbs, crystals, etc. But unfortunately i cant have candles and don't have access to the others and i couldn't pack my altar stuff. Do you have any advice or ideas?

Hellooooo! :)Β

Well, I’m sort of on the same boat, as far as candles go! My apartment has very sensitive smoke detectors, and now-a-days i get a little worried just lighting tea lights because I have a new rambunctious kitty cat running around, climbing all over everything! So, I try to minimize the amount of actual fire I currently use in my practice! The adjustments that have been working best for me have been:A. Using electric candles and tealights. They’re not grossly expensive, but a little bit higher up in price than your typical pack of tealights. And they’re reusable! If you need a little help getting connected with electric tealights, I found it very helpful to drop them in a little $5 tea light salt lamp I picked up at walmart!B. Electric oil warmers! The stores around me sell some for pretty cheap. I have a moderate sized corded one I use now-a-days, and there are even some tiny wall plug-in ones if you’re short on space!Β c. If the ritual or spell involves burning anything, a lot of times I’ll include it in the ritual or casting of the spell, but wait until I’m outside on a sidewalk or have it outside in a fireproof container and let it burn out there. Have some water on hand to stay prepared! As far as gathering tools, don’t worry about having a bunch of fancy ingredients and stuff, especially if you’re just starting to ease back into your practice! Going back to the basics and keeping it simple helps direct you away from burning yourself out with a bunch of elaborate magick! A really neat stick or pencil or kitchen tool or even your finger makes an adequate wand! A little chunk of clear quartz is a really nice all-purpose crystal! If you can’t access one, go on a walk and find some pretty rocks you connect to! They’ll be more than glad to help! As far as herbs go, Rosemary is like the quartz of the green magick realm, as it’s very all-purpose and can help substitute some of the rarer herbs in a spell you’d want to cast! Salt is a common household item that’s used in a considerable amount of spell-casting!! If you’re worried about making anyone uneasy with having a very explicit altar out, making an altar box or a portable altar is always an option! Or if you’d like, spread your tools around your personal living quarters to make it a discreet room-wide altar / sacred space!Β I hope at least one piece of my advice helps you out! Don’t feel guilty about your depression pulling you away from your magickal work! You’re doing your best, and that’s what matters most to the Universe! Your best will always be enough!
