How to watch ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’

1) Settle in for a lengthy, epic dip in the DC pond.

2) Chill.

3) Appreciate tension, both in the style and in the dynamic between the characters.

4) Grow up. This is not Marvel.

5) Delight in details that go beyond funny quips and childish antics.

6) Revel in the spectacle Snyder so adeptly creates.

7) Soak up the mythology, not just the actual characters and their positions in popular culture, but also in the epic, overwrought exposition that the film promises to convey.

8) Don’t read what critics are saying. Some people won’t get the serious tone or the lengthy melodrama.

9) Don’t compare the film to anything Marvel Studios has done. If you’re going to compare it to anything, compare it to Snyder’s Watchmen or Bryan Singer’s X-Men. They are more alike in tone, genre and register.

10) Get excited for what is to come and commend Warner Bros for trying to do something different. If they were working with the template developed by Marvel, they would have been torn apart by fans and critics alike.

11) Let everyone know that Gal Gadot is the best Wonder Woman we could have asked for.

12) Formulate your own opinions, as a fan or as a critic. This way you will be providing a more robust perspective on the film and the universe it occupies.
