“Dean?” Stepping into the library, you finished buttoning up the flannel shirt he’d let you borrow, then dropped your hands to your sides. “Dean, are you in here?”

There was no answer and you sighed. Both Sam and Dean had gone AWOL since your conversation with Sam two days ago, and you hadn’t seen Cas since long before then.

You were just about to pick up the book you’d been reading before the incident with Sam when you heard the tell-tale flutter of angel wings. Looking up, you smiled when you saw Cas standing in the doorway between the war room and the library, but your smile quickly fell when you saw the bloodied angel blade in his hand and the long, thin gash along the side of his forehead.

“Cas?” you asked, hurrying over to him and grabbing his arm to support him just before he could collapse onto the floor. Though he was heavy, you managed to maneuver him into one of the creaky library chairs nearby. His hand let go of the blade and it fell beside your foot, clattering loudly and leaving a small nick in the dark wood.

“Sam! Dean! Help!”

“Dean,” you whispered. He didn’t stir and you grinned, kneeling on the mattress so that you could peer over his shoulders at his face. “Dean, wake up!”

Slowly, Dean blinked his eyes open. After a moment he looked up at you, meeting your eyes and smiling sleepily.

“Good morning,” he murmured, his voice full of gravel. You couldn’t help but smile wider, settling down on your calves and leaning against his side.

“Good morning. How’d you sleep?”

“Better than I have in a long while.” Dean rolled onto his back and laced your fingers with yours before he pulled you down to cuddle against him. You happily obliged and let him tangle himself further with you, arms and legs wrapping around you as he silently tried to convince you to go back to sleep with him.

The next time Sam opened his eyes, he was greeted by the dark, brick ceiling of the bunker infirmary. A quick, silent check told him that he wasn’t in pain anymore and he let out a sigh of relief, letting his eyes fall closed again.

“How you feeling?”

Sam opened them once more at the sound of Dean’s voice, then slowly sat up in the bed. The stark white sheet that had been draped over him fell down into his lap and his hands immediately moved to smooth it and fold it until all the wrinkles had disappeared—an anxious habit he’d had for as long as he can remember.

“Better,” Sam answered honestly. “Don’t think I’ve ever been happier to be home.”
