hey you remember cakepost right?

you know, that image where the punchline is "two cakes!"

this image.

ever wanted to support that artist for that life-changing advice? GOOD NEWS - YOU NOW CAN! BUY THEIR GAME!

it is decidedly PRETTY GOOD.

this is my SHAMELESS DAY REBLOG to KEEP THIS POST FLOATING AROUND.

ALSO, AFTER PLAYING IT, LEAVE A REVIEW. Every positive review brings us one step closer to ASTROLANCERSWEEP and begins the process of selling AN ASTROLLION COPIES

astrolancer releases tomorrow at midnight EST.

i have no idea what's going to happen. on one hand, the twitter posts never got out of double digits and by those metrics i would expect it to sell about 100 copies before dying in the gutter.

on the other, i've been getting like 50 wishlists a day since i announced the release date despite no social media movement at all, so whatever steam is doing to show upcoming releases, it's working somewhat.

like, we're at the intersection of "the numbers are fucking terrible" and "the game has demonstratable appeal to a non-negligible number of randos" and we're basically just going to pray to the algorithm to show the game to 5k of those randos

happy bad corporate idea day

now you see the pessimistic view of the boop-o-meter is that one can never share as much love with others as they will ever receive and that love is both selfless and selfish, but that's wrong, isn't it? being pessimistic about it is just wrong. the real way to view this is that one small kind gesture invites others to show that same small kindness to others. boop your friends. show them your love

i would simply not use a company's sdk to develop an emulator for their software. rip to yuzu but i'm different.

nintendo is not your friend in the same way any corporation is not your friend, but this is not nintendo killing an innocent baby for wanting to play a switch game for free

you lose all claim to be "staunchly against piracy" when you:

  • discuss, in a public space, your stash of roms that you distribute amongst your developer buddies, giving up any sort of plausible deniability that your emulator is developed with your own legally dumped copies
  • use the source development kit to develop your emulator, a type of program explicitly only protected under reverse-engineering laws
  • market your paywalled builds of your emulators using pre-release games that you could only get via piracy.

the fact that citra died for all of this is so stupid for numerous reasons, least of all being citra's development nearly ceasing once yuzu went public, but if you have sympathy for the yuzu team you have fallen for propaganda.

piracy is a morally neutral act. you are not a criminal for pirating games, but you're not some robin hood either.

yuzu had enough money to hire a hundred-year-old law firm. they were making enough money to corporatize.
