Parents really have no business dictating how their children style themselves. They just don’t. Children are autonomous human beings with a right to dress how they want and style their hair how they want. It really doesn’t matter how the parents feel about it, because it’s not their hair or their clothes. If a child wants to shave half their head or dye their hair orange or wear nothing but floral prints, parents need to just roll with it because self-expression is good, healthy, and normal. Denying children the autonomy to express themselves in this way is Very Bad.

I have so much disappoint. My grandma told me her grandparents and mom had to keep low and always hide. She said whatever prejudices against blacks there were in the South, they were bigger against native Americans. Now people claim ancestry like it's cool points. Can't tell you any of their traditions though. My grandma says I look just like her mom. But claiming it sounds like bragging, like I'm one of the others who claim and speak of native Americans like they know the native language. Like they can write the story for them, without hiding, without dying, without doing anything for them
