every neighbourhood has a fucked up little rumour about it that nobody knows who started and whether it’s true or not. for example there’s a seemingly abandoned flat in a building next to mine where pigeons like to nest and as children we always avoided it because apparently the guy who lived there previously took care of pigeons but children used to scare them off so one day he killed one of the kids with an axe and went to prison

i live in a really old town/village which was built around a castle (like 800 years ago) so a lot of our houses are old as well. there is one green house that has a very well tended garden, the greenest tree you'll ever see and an iron fence sorrounding the whole thing. the window shutters are either closed or no light comes from the windows, no one i talked to knows who there lives, no one ever leaves or enters the house (at least not that we saw xD). the rumour is that a witch lives there, all by herself, locked up centuries ago, because she was evil. my friends and me didn't believe it and in a halloween night we went trick or treating and also knocked on the door of that house. we waited, but noone opened, so we decided to leave. that's when we saw that an old woman was watching us from a window in the second floor, she didn't move and didn't say anything, even after we tried to talk to her. we quickly went to another house and tried to forget it, but after that we believed the rumours of the old locked away witch, who is patiently waiting to be free again

funny is that we have like no rumours about our castle, cause we know when and why it was built and who lived there :D
