writers:

  • break up your paragraphs. big paragraphs are scary, your readers will get scared
  • fuuuuck epithets. “the other man got up” “the taller woman sat down” “the blonde walked away” nahhh. call them by their names or rework the sentence. you can do so much better than this (exception: if the reader doesn’t know the character(s) you’re referring to yet, it’s a-okay to refer to them by an identifying trait)
  • blunette is not a thing
  • new speaker, new paragraph. please.
  • “said” is such a great word. use it. make sweet love to it. but don’t kill it
  • use “said” more than you use synonyms for it. that way the use of synonyms gets more exciting. getting a sudden description of how a character is saying something (screaming, mumbling, sighing) is more interesting that way.
  • if your summary says “I suck at summaries” or “story better than summary” you’re turning off the reader, my dude. your summary is supposed to be your hook. you gotta own it, just like you’re gonna own the story they’re about to read
  • follow long sentences w short ones and short ones w long ones. same goes for paragraphs
  • your writing is always better than you think it is. you just think it’s bad because the story’s always gonna be predicable to the one who’s writing it
  • i love u guys keep on trucking

As sharp as any thorn

Merry Christmas, wonderful friends! This story serves as a direct follow-up to yesterday’s chapter, and my attempt to apologize for the angst. However, because there’s only so much I can fix and stay within the ongoing arc of DWMP, there is still a wee bit of angst herein. To compensate, I have added some sentimental nonsense as well, and the result may be a mess, which as far as I’m concerned, is what the holidays are all about. LET US BE SLOPPY DRUNK SAD SAPPY HAPPY MESSES TOGETHER.
Warnings for consumption of alcohol, some sadness, and a story that will be confusing if you haven’t read the most recent chapter of DWMP. Some gross fluff too.
This is basically within a day or two of chapter 70.

God rest ye merry gentlemen – ”

– let nothing you dismay!”

Remember Christ our – I always feel weird singing about Christ, honestly.”

“Oh, that rascally Jesus. Always getting in the way of a good Christmas song.”

“Right?”

“You can leave him out, but keep going, we had almost started one entire song.”

“Right. Remember all the… boozy booze we drink upon this day…”

Turgon refilled his mug and took a sip before continuing to sing.  “To save us all from…sobriety, when we were gone astray – o-o-ohhh tiiidings of comfort and joy – ”

“Comfort and joy!”

“o-O-O-o-h tiidings of co-o-o-mfort and joy.”

"Erestor!!" The son of Elrond shouted, before running up to the librarian and tackled him to the ground. "I have not seen you in an age... How are you?" The brunette asked in rapid elvish.

With a startled cry and a burst of laughter, Erestor fell to the ground, embracing the younger elf. “Elrohir! Are you and your brother back already?” he teased, “I was enjoying the peace and quiet…”

Avatar

“Yes I know… Arwen gave me a big hug and then ran off… Ada was just happy to see me back with fewer scrapes than normal.” He said, sitting there and not realising the elf’s discomfort. Only when spoke, did his eyes widen and he stood up, offering a hand down and helping him up. “I’m so sorry! Are you alright?”

Taking the offered hand and pulling himself to his feet, Erestor laughed, brushing himself off and smoothing out his robes. “I’m fine, Elladan. No,” He motioned for the twin to join him on the couch, “Sit. Tell me all about your trip.”

The brunette let out a breath of relief and smiled, glad he hadn't hurt his friend and moved to sit with him on the couch. “Well... I’ll tell yo it was long... Longer than normal... Because we got separated...” He frowned, sighing and sinking into the comfort of the chair. “But you probably don’t want to hear about that!”

He huffed as his hair was ruffled, though the twin couldn’t help but smile again seconds later. “Well I am glad someone missed me…” He said, sitting up, thought he was still sitting on the raven. “Of course I will… Except for the one book I still have in my possession… Now I can finally finish reading it.” He grinned wider.

“Your father and sister missed you as well, and you know it, Elladan.” Erestor laughed, wriggling beneath the other elf in discomfort. The twin was no longer the size of an elfling, and Erestor, being the small elf that he was, was crushed beneath him.

“Could you kindly get off of me?”

“Yes I know... Arwen gave me a big hug and then ran off... Ada was just happy to see me back with fewer scrapes than normal.” He said, sitting there and not realising the elf’s discomfort. “Don’t ask me that…” [hi there. feel free to ignore this if you want]

The elf frowned, looking at the other person with a furrowed brow. “Why won’t you answer?” Just curious as to why they kept avoiding the question.

Avatar

“Of course I would…” The elf said, still standing there, placid and still curious.  “I was taught to give everyone a chance… So of course you’d get one too, no matter what problems have occurred in the past, they’re in the past and I am here, right now.”

She nodded with a small smile. “Thank you. I appreciate it.” She said sincerely. “What do I need to do to probe myself to you?”

“Tell me exactly what you want at the end of this and I will try my best to help.” Elladan replied, happy to help. “You need the help and I really want to know what you want in the end...”

In the house of Elrond/ rp with @imladriswillnotsurvivemyways

imladriswillnotsurvivemyways said:“Who are you?” He asked, tapping the strange female on the shoulder. He hadn’t seen her around before and he had known everyone in Rivendell, or at least he thought he had, until this certain elf appeared, almost out of nowhere.

Ash turned and immediately fell into a bow. “ My lord, I am Ash. I am a humble servant to your fathers house. How may I serve you?” she asked.

He blinked a little at her, raising a brow before humming a little. “I am merely curious about you… How long have you been working here?” The elf tilted his head in question, before smiling kindly.

“ Only a day. I have been placed here from Mirkwood. I was part of the guard.” she grinned at his surprised look. “ I have come to join the honored protection of the house of Elrond.” She looked down for a second, then returned her eyes shyly to his with a smile. “ I know who your are. You Prince Elladan. It is an honor and privilege to meet you.” she said, placing her hand over her heart. “ I was actually looking for the way to my chambers, I seem to be lost.” she laughed.

He tilted his head and nodded at that before raising a brow at the sly smile, matching one with his own. “Well, it is nice to meet you… Do I get to know your name? I seem to be at a loss here, you know of me but yet, I do not know of you.” He said, before bowing at the neck. “I can escort you to your rooms… If you tell me your name.” The son of the lord smiled kindly.

She laughed. “ Forgive me, I am not myself, for I have journeyed long. My name is Ash sire. I do not have a other name as I am  a child of no one. I am alone in the world.” she said softly. “ My purpose it only to serve.”

He frowned at her words, but offered and arm and waited until she took it before escorting her away. “I think your only purpose should be to find your own happiness…” He replied simply, not understanding why someone would disregard their own happiness.

She smiled at him. “ I have never had the time to, but one day soon.” she said, She took in the surroundings as they walked. “ Your home is so beautiful! I have seen both the greenwood and the lady of light’s home. But i was never afforded the pleasure of seeing Rivendell. It is amazing.” she said, her eyes wide with wonder. “ How is your family, I must meet Lord Elrond tomorrow.”

“You have all the time in the world…” He replied, letting the female take in the surroundings as they walked to the room, before he smiled. “It is amazing… But not as much as Lorien… I do miss my grandmother.” He said without realising it before tilting his head. “You will meet him tomorrow, I promise. The family is fine.”

When they reached her chambers, she smiled. “ I thank you again for the help. I usually have a good sense of direction, but I seemed to get quite lost today!” she laughed. “ It is nice to have such a welcome. I look forward to getting to know you and your family.” she said softly. Her blue-gray eyes twinkling.

“It is fine... You’ll get the hang of it in no time.” He grinned widely and laughed as well. “You will... Now go rest and I will come get you in the morning.”

“Yes, there she is.” “Exquisite”

A gift art piece I decided to make for the talented @valinwhore . I have only recently driven headlong into my art again to push myself beyond what I was and achieve more. When I stumbled across @valinwhore’s “The Seduction of Mairon” comic I was really inspired and excited to get back into a fandom I had been apart of for quite some time. Thanks to the resulting art, I’ve met so many great people, and so I really wanted to give back a little something. My piece here is for the last panel of Part 4 of “The Seduction of Mairon.” in which Mairon gets his sass on against the incredibly persistent Melkor. (I also really loved Mairon in his blacksmith apron and really wanted to draw him in it!) I hope you like it @valinwhore ! Thanks for being an awesome inspiration and thanks for taking the time to talk to me even though you were so busy. And a big thanks to the rest of the community as well. You guys all rock.

Elladan whined, frowning at the elf he knew was his friend, that also knew exactly whoch twin he was. “Erestor… that’s mean.” The son of Elrond pouted. “But yes we’re back and if you don’t be nice, I’ll steal all your books and replace it with human trash.” It was a lie, he’d never do that, he liked the elf too much, but it was worth getting a reaction from him.

Chuckling, Erestor ruffled the twin’s hair, “You are the one whose mean, Elladan.” the Councillor smiled, “But yes, I missed you too. And Elrohir, of course.” He knew Elladan too well to believe the lie, but humoured him all the same. “Please leave my books alone.”

He huffed as his hair was ruffled, though the twin couldn’t help but smile again seconds later. “Well I am glad someone missed me...” He said, sitting up, thought he was still sitting on the raven. “Of course I will... “What if I stood up for you? I am sure if I got to know you and understand, you wouldn’t be viewed as a threat… Or as a liar…” He shrugged, almost human like. “I am a good judge to see if you’re trustworthy.”

She gave him a look full of confusion and surprise. “You would really do that for me? But why?” She asked curiously. She didn’t understand why anyone would want to help her, especially Lord Elrond’s son.

“Of course I would...” The elf said, still standing there, placid and still curious.  “I was taught to give everyone a chance... So of course you’d get one too, no matter what problems have occurred in the past, they’re in the past and I am here, right now.”

"Ada..." The young elf spoke, before bowing at the waist and tilting his head as he looked over his father. "You wished to speak to me?" Elladan smiled as per normal.

Avatar

Elrond looked up from his desk, “Ah, yes. Please sit.” He finished signing the last bit of paper work he was working on before looking back to his son. “I understand you and Elrohir are interested in joining the patrols around the valley. I simply wondered why I heard this second hand instead of from my sons.”

Avatar

Elladan moved to sit when his father told him he could, however, at one point, he froze. It was when his father was talking about their plan to join the Rangers, he looked up through grey eyes, blinking. "Because we'd never thought you'd approve... We just want to see if they'd allow us to go..." He sounded like a child being caught. "I'm sorry Ada."
