Just finished my latest Procreate piece of Kim Taehyung from BTS. I loved his Bazaar magazine shoot and this image was so striking with the shadows and light so I had to draw it. Done over 22 hours using the sketch and charcoal default brushes and smudge tool. Decorative elements I created in Illustrator and layered in. Print available in my shop.
Who's going to @animeboston next weekend? I'll have my wombats with me! Come find me at artist alley table #4 (just to the left of the entrance) and adopt your own wombat with or without extra poops.
Not going to Boston? Wombat is also available in my shop!
Here's another side of Kimchi Kawaii. The Year of the Dragon pins Kickstarter is live! I wanted to create some designs celebrating the Year of the Dragon and also reflecting my Korean heritage. Both the dragon (yong) and phoenix (bonghwang) are colored using colors found in the traditional art of dancheong. The pins will measure 3" and are packed with detail that will be brought to life with the metalwork, hard enamel fill and screen printing. Pins will have two posts and locking backs.
We have 10 days to fund both highly detailed, collectable pins. Become a backer and lock in your pins at the special KS rate.
It's the Year of the Dragon and I wanted to celebrate with a Korean themed dragon (yong) to reflect my heritage. On March 1, this 3" deluxe art pin will launch on Kickstarter along with the phoenix (bonghwang). Both pins are packed with detail that will be brought to life with the metal, hard enamel fill and screen printing.
I'm so excited for this project and I hope you'll join in! Follow to get a notification the minute the project goes live!
Never go on a date with a wombat.
Want to try for a better outcome? I have them available in my shop!
Bonus outtake pic at the end.
My Daechwita pin is now available in my shop. 3" enamel pin with locking backs. This is the most detailed one I've ever done!
Weird fact: Wombats poop cubes.
Weird fact: I think this is hilarious and a good plush idea.
Wombat is currently live on Kickstarter with three poops and 80% funded! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kimchi-kawaii/wacky-wombat-and-cube-poo-plush
I thought the Dynamite Taehyung cosplay was gonna be a one off, but boy was I wrong. I got to go to the PTD On Stage concert in LA and I fell in love with Tae's costume from Black Swan. The show wasn't even over and I had already decided I was gonna try to recreate it. (Last pic is one of the reference pics I used).
It was quite a sewing adventure, but I got it done and I'm so happy with the way it came out! I referenced what few pictures and video I could find, spent a lot of time with the seam ripper, made multiple trips to the fabric store and sewed my butt off in a marathon to get it ready for a local anime con.
I loved wearing it at con and even had some people recognize who I was dressed as which was pretty cool. I can't wait for an actual ARMY event to wear it to or better yet, a BTS concert. Random trivia - I'm the same height as Tae and share hand size and birth city :)
In the meantime, some friends and I are trying to get it noticed by Tae on Weverse with the hashtag 'blackswanholly' so if you're fellow ARMY with a profile there, cheer my post! I'm also Kimchi Kawaii there.

Entered the Permission to Dance Youtube short challenge and am trying to get more views to it (screen shot from my short). Big fantasy is that the guys see it and it makes it into the compilation video. So I hope you'll check it out!
Had fun doing pics and videos with my Kim Taehyung Dynamite cosplay (even though it was pretty warm outside, yay - CA summers, ugh). I joke with my friends that I'm Discount Tae - same height, weight and birth city, but I'm much cheaper to hang out with, LOL.
It's National Eat Your Jello Day. I did these retro-style jello pins two years ago when a discussion led to looking through my mom's vintage cookbooks from when they put everything in gelatin - not just fruit, but savory stuff like veggies, meat and mayo. Some recipes were truly questionable.
These pins feature translucent enamel to mimic the jello. They are for sale in my shop.
I got the pants back today and that means that my Dynamite Taehyung cosplay is DONE! I can't wait to do the photo shoot with my friend next weekend. I'm so happy with how this all came out.
In other news, my cosplay project for this summer has been turning myself into Kim Taehyung from BTS, lol. I loved his look in Dynamite and so have sewn the outfit. It’s almost done. The only thing left is getting the pants back (they are being altered to fit better by a friend). I did some test pics in my apartment the other night just for fun. Nerdy version is cause I actually need to wear glasses when not doing photos.
I also taught myself the full routine for Dynamite. I’m super excited to wear this out and just have fun running around as my bias!
Summer is in full swing and this watermola wants to hang out with you! Yes, it’s a watermelon mola mola cause why not make the most awkward fish in the sea even more awkward?
It’s National Fried Chicken Day so let’s talk about KFC. No, not the one with the colonel. I’m talking about the other ‘kfc’ - Korean Fried Chicken. It’s sooo yummy. If you haven’t had it, you should definitely try to find some. My fave so far is the soy garlic at Bon Chon.
