I learned in a Latin Studies class (with a chill white dude professor) that when the Europeans first saw Aztec cities they were stunned by the grid. The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization.

When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (now downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that century’s london with a working sewage system, artificial “floating gardens” (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasn’t even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city. The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time.

Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool.

They’ve also recently discovered a lost Native American city in Kansas called Etzanoa It rivals the size of Cahokia, which was very large as well.

The Trump team put out a survey a while ago about the mainstream media. Apparently they didn’t like the answers so they sent it out again but only to Trump supporters.

Here’s the link so you can let them know what you think about the mainstream media.

This is still the worst survey I’ve ever seen in my life, but fuck it up again. A survey’s not a survey if you only give it to people who’ll give you the answers you want to your leading questions. Also, this survey does require some personal information, but if it’s like the last one, you can make up fake ones and it’ll accept them. -V

The way they have couched these questions to include double negatives and particular terminology is not only insulting to me as an English major and a scientist who cares about statistical validity, but terrifying.

They use a lowercase “media” when they are actually referring to particular news outlets or mainstream media in general, but refer to their political party as “our Party” as if it is a person, an important proper noun, something Greater in Purpose.

They don’t ask “do you think the media needs to do more fact-checking” they ask “do you think the media is too quick to spread false stories,” which asks you not to judge the stories, but the speed at which they spread. In order to answer yes or no, you must accept that the stories are false as a given. They’ve couched their preferred terms and opinions inside of other topics in order to sway non-critical thinkers subconsciously. They’re further polarizing their power base, making their followers distrust all news sources that disagree with the Party. This is a very effective and sneaky tactic that will make it so, so much more difficult to sway any of their supporters away with facts or logic.

This is terrifyingly extremist. I could spend hours picking this apart, but it would just be an in-depth example of careful phrasing. Take a good hard look at this.

Yes, please read the questions carefully! I made up fake stats to do this, and was able to answer either “yes” or “no” to one single question. Take the time to fill out the last bit, where you can write in your own.

I like how as soon as you submit your vote, it takes you to a page asking you to donate.

Gods, that was the pettiest poll I have ever taken. “Do you believe that if Republicans obstructed Obama in the way Democrats are obstructing Trump, that the media would report against Republicans?”

Holy crap- what a convoluted question.

why did they make us stack cups in elementary school

I had completely forgotten about this but was it just my school that was off the fucking walls about it? They would show us videos in gym of professional cup stacking and yell ‘THIS COULD BE YOU.’ We spent every Tuesday in gym with those gotdamn cups and we all had, like, The Cup Stacking Catalogue. I made my parents buy me glow in the dark cups for my ninth birthday what are we as a society.

we had that too, like they were trying to convince some of us to get good enough to go to contests for it. and sell us cups. so many cups. cups to appease every type of child. not even cups you can drink from.

??im not american is this real or is this a convoluted shitpost??????

it’s definitely real

My best friend still holds the record for the three stack part

OK I AM from America and it must be a regional thing because wtf

OMG IM FROM CANADA AND I REMEMBER THIS! they would show us commercials of like world wide championships for cup stacking and we had our own cup stacking cups in our class
