Am I the only one who expects to actually NOT like Rachel? We will see haha
I can’t believe this profile is still here!!!
“Sharks just wanna eat.” She said, before Max dived underwater. Then nothing happened. “Max, you better not do anything stupid!” The bluenette called, looking down to see what Max is doing underwater. And actually she wasn’t doing anything, just…looking at her? Gosh Max was such a perv! Chloe laughed. “Like what you see Max?”
The teen snapped back to attention after hearing Chloe’s voice. It was her usual tone that was a mixture of making fun of someone and fucking around. Pretty typical of people that get away with picking on their friends with no retaliation far too much! Max reached up and dunked her friend under the water, using her weight to push her down as she rose out of the water. Taking a big breath, the brunette let out a giggle and waited for the inevitable. “I dunno, from where I’m swimming, Otters seem to be in the lead!”
Glaring at Max for pulling her down -though she actually expected her to do it- Chloa swam up, too. “Yeah, you wish. Admit it you were checking the hot shark out. You’re all over the shark, right? Want her to take a li’l bite of you huh?” She asked, as she swam towards the brunette slowly, like a shark before it’s attacking.
“It sounds more like that’s what the shark wants to hear!” The brunette splashed some water at her old friend, grinning as she did it. “Maybe the shark doesn’t want to eat the otter, but just wants her affection!” The pool’s chlorine smell and the lights that lit up the dark interior of the room made it an almost magical time. “So? What say you sharky?”
“Affection? Yeah, sure, why would a shark want affecion from her prey?” Asked the bluenette, as she plashed some water back at her. “You can be glad she didn’t eat you already. But that’ll change, when the otter keeps being a little smartass.”
“A smartass? Isn’t that usually your job?” the brunette asked with a shit eating grin. Afterall, it was both Joyce and David that had told her about what a ‘Smartass’ Chloe had truly become. Swimming in closer, Max smiled at the girl. “All kidding aside... it’s really great to have you back, it feels like we just picked up where we left off, even though I know we didn’t.”
Max still felt like her skull was going to crack open, but at least she was awake. She raised a hand and scrunched her face, trying to get the punkette to stop shoving her lips in her face. “Just… gimme a minute alright?” She looked down at her hands, turning them over and then back over, trying to remember what happened. After more than a minute, she spoke again “Can we open the window? I’m like… Hella hot.” She smiled softly, hoping that that line would be enough to force the teary eyed girl that she was alright. “Well, I guess I CAN take you back in time… it just hurts like all hell…” She let out a sigh, but was relieved that Chloe hadn’t been shot again. “I only vaguely remember it now to tell you the truth…”
In a hurry to make sure Max was as catered to as possible she ran to the window to open it about half way, pausing for a bit, “Uh, you want water or a coke or something? Or food? Like, for real Max I was so scared, I’ll get you anything you want.”
She was really glad she’d gotten to actually experience time travel, but it was worrying - she didn’t know if Max could ever do that again without seriously risking her own safety, but maybe that would be required. Having two sets of eyes, both with knowledge of the future might be better than just one.
The brunette shook her head back and forth, indicating that she was fine on the food and drink level. “I don’t think I should eat right now, especially since my head probably wouldn’t allow me to keep it down.” It was nice having Chloe there to watch out for her. Afterall, what if she had collapsed by just taking herself back, what would have happened to her?
“So you’re sure you’re ok? No adverse affects or anything? No crazy nosebleeds?” Max wondered how Chloe was able to travel through time with no real side affect while she was a lightning rod of bad luck when it came to that sort of thing.
Chloe didn’t really think about it until now, but she actually hadn’t had any adverse effects at all. “Huh. That’s weird… it didn’t fuck with me at all, I was just confused I guess. Uhm, maybe that’s… I mean, I’m always here to try to protect you, maybe I got to save you today?”
It seemed like a good idea to regularly time travel in pairs, but she’d hate to inflict any more trauma on Max, and besides, rewinding should only be a last resort. “Uh, if you’re okay, I’ll be right back with drinks and snacks. We do need to start our investigation, don’t we? Or are there more steps?”
Max listened to Chloe, but her hand returned to her head and she sighed. “To be honest Chloe, I don’t think I can do any kind of investigation yet… I’m still pretty headache city.” The rhythmic pounding in her head sounded like she was listening to a marching band, one that had no idea how to stop.
At this point, the brunette was simply glad that both of them were ok, and she was more than willing to spend the evening chilling out, instead of playing Nancy Drew anymore. Reaching into her sweatshirt pocket, she pulled out a yellow reel of film and looked at it. “Besides, I need a darkroom for this…”
The instant Max said the word the first thing that popped into her head was the phrase Rachel in the Dark Room, and it scared the hell out of her. She couldn’t keep lying to herself - Rachel was dead. There’s no way she wasn’t, unless she straight up decided to betray Chloe and abandon her forever. Neither was pleasant… She didn’t really want to talk about it, so she just shrugged, offering Max a weak smile. “Babe, uh… I’m gonna go make a tray of like, snacks - crackers, cheese, all that good shit. And coke. And aspirin. I’ll be right back, okay?” Because ya know, she was really worried about the poor time traveler, and nothing stressed Chloe out worse than doing nothing.
Max let Chloe go and get the snacks, looking around the room. It looked just as innocent as it had the day she and Chloe had been reunited. It was strange how innocent it felt, knowing that some seriously dark shit was going on in this town. Clenching her fists into balls, the brunette growled to herself. “Nathan Prescott...” Those pictures of Chloe had both scared the daylights out of her and made her possessive and angry. Granted they had only just gotten together, Max felt rage towards the boy for hurting her new girlfriend.
Looking at the little case of film, she feared what she might find on it, but she knew that they needed real answers now, instead of walking around in the dark through this situation any longer.

Max rolled her eyes, but whipped out her cell phone and began to frantically text Warren. The teenage boy seemed overly eager to join in their adventure, to a point where the brunette turned to Chloe. “He will be here in five minutes… listen… you need to let ME tell him about us… when he is ready. Please…” Max knew that Chloe wanted to brag, but at the same time she felt that was really a mean thing to do. Warren had made his intentions clear, and Max wanted to keep her friend.
Chloe groaned a little bit as she was ordered not to say WE’RE DATING, SHITLORD! to the poor boy. But that was fine. “Meh, boys are gross. But that’s fine, I’m not in the business of breaking hearts, I’m in the business of kicking serious ass and helping you solve time. That’s pretty good too I figure.”
She didn’t get out of the car immediately after she parked, looking over to make sure that her partner was ready to go, and of course, taking a moment to look her over. “You all set, Max? We’re gonna finish this. Today.” The bluenette was filled with determination - with her timetraveler on her side they’d solve this mystery in no time.
Max watched Chloe for a moment, realizing quite easily that she would need to hold back on lording it over Warren. She realized that she was going to have to tell Warren sooner rather than later, lest her loud and brash girlfriend spill the beans at an opportune time. The brunette took in a deep breath as Warren appeared in the lot. “Stay here please.” Max told Chloe and hopped out of the truck. After walking over, Max and Warren seemed to talk for quite a while.
Max took his hands in her own, but he looked down at the ground, it seemed that the bad news was broken. After several more minutes, Max returned and opened the door. “He’s gonna help us, cmon!” She said to Chloe with a newfound fire in her belly.
Chloe quickly followed her, pausing for a moment to thank Warren. “Super glad you’re helping, Warr-Machine. You’re pretty badass!” She was being a bit unusually nice, having seen his reaction earlier. Though, as she caught up with supermax she took her hand, leading her to the dorms. “So, Warren-Peace is going to cover our backs, and we can solve the problems with no interruptions. You’re gonna need to get ready to pop that power of yours though - he can NOT see us. I really don’t want to have a shootout in the school.”
Max listened to Chloe analyzing the situation, but she had retreated into the confines of her own mind. Leading the trio into the dorms, the two girls left Warren at the entrance to the boys dorm and walked down the hall. Once they reached Nathan’s room, Max worked without hesitating, not able to let Chloe try her lockpicking skills, due to time constraints. Without missing a beat, the hipster grabbed the fire extinguisher and smashed the door handle three times before the lock popped open. Max virtually pulled Chloe into the room and shut the door, the hunt for information was now on…
Chloe’s first reaction was to assume that her girlfriend had totally lost it, but she had to admit that it was quite effective - smashing open a door was always a rad way to make an entrance. She followed closely, and with only a slight bit of PTSD about where she’d been drugged, she was able to get to work, almost uselessly inspecting everything. She always did think of herself more of a pirate than a private dick, though she would probably look hella good in the outfit. After a while she did ask Max if she’d found anything, but other than that she searched in relative silence, only making the occasional rude remark about the rich prick who usually lived in the creepy dorm room.
Max looked at Chloe’s astonished face and shrugged. “I’m just gonna rewind this and tell you everything we learned anyway, right?” Though naturally she couldn’t be sure of that, the rewind power didn’t come with the benefit of beforehand hindsight. Digging into Nathan’s things, Max found a hint here and there, but nothing that really set her off. Some weird ass whale sounds were definitely on the “creep” scale, but nothing incriminating. Just when she was starting to lose hope, she found it. Behind the futon, a package of pictures of Rachel tied up and drugged…. and worse… images of the same thing of Chloe. Max could feel her stomach twist, fighting back the urge to vomit. “Oh my God…” she muttered. Turning to Chloe with hurt in her eyes, Max handed her the pictures of Rachel, but held back the pictures of her new girlfriend. “Please… don’t make me show these to you Chloe…” she said in a saddened voice.
Chloe, ever nosy was quite interested in finding the only interesting evidence they’d found so far, but she could tell it was something awful. “Uh… that bad, huh? You think that’s enough evidence, or should we keep looking? I’m gave for anything - just remember to give me a good summary when you get back to the future, heh…” she drifted off in thought, realizing that she’d never actually thought about what happened to her when Max rewinds. Does she stop existing? OR does Max not even rewind at all and they live on as if her power is useless. “Hey, uhm. Could you hold my hand when you do rewind? I wanna see if you can take us both back. That’d be hella cool.”
Max raised her brow and shook her head. “It’s nothing that you need to see, in fact, I don’t want you to see it… it wouldn’t do anything besides hurt.” Max looked at the pictures of Rachel and sighed. “I don’t know, I feel like like we need something else…” she muttered before spying Nathan’s camera in the corner. Taking it, she ejected the film after rewinding it and popped it into her pocket, as if she had done that a million times. “In any other situation, I’d say lets try it… but after some of the things I’ve seen this week I literally think it would be safer for you to just go with it…” Not only did Max not want Chloe to get hurt or killed again by some crazy nonsense, there was also the nosebleeds. Max figured that the more she manipulated time, the worse the head pains would get… plus, her rewind is the only time she felt like she was unique… different from the crowd… maybe Chloe would make her feel that way in the future, but teenagers are teenagers.
She groaned as Max suggested that she just ‘go with it’, but again, Max always did know best - or she seemed to at the very least. “Well… can we at least try that at some point, just to see if it works? I won’t even have this idea after you rewind, so you probably should tell me about it along with other stuff that might help. Uhm, I’ll go check on Warren… Don’t take too long okay?”, and with that and a quick super chaste peck on the lips, she left to go see if Nathan was either in the process of or had completed the act of murdering a nerd. Luckily they hadn’t taken too long, because it didn’t seem like Nathan’d been by yet, but that just gave her more time to ponder what actually happens to everyone when they rewind, and it was starting to really stress her out.
Max listened to Chloe and watched her walk out the room to check on Warren. It made her feel like shit to tell her new girlfriend “No” when she obviously wanted to try something. It made her feel worse that part of the reason she said no was because she liked being the one in charge for once in her life. “Large and in charge… huh Max?” She asked herself and shook her head. The power did frighten her though, the headaches were getting worse, and the nosebleeds happened at highly inopportune times. How could she be there to protect Chloe if she caused herself to get knocked out?
As she looked out the window, Max finally focused on something… “Oh shit!” She shouted, as she realized what she had seen was Nathan looking straight at her from the grounds below. He had obviously seen her, and was now making a beeline to get inside. Max tore out of the room, turning down the hall and running faster than she knew she even could. Just as Nathan kicked the door open, gun in has hand, Max grabbed Chloe by the wrist and raised her hand.
ZAP! The two of them were in the same hallway, but Nathan and Warren were gone… However, it seemed that Max had been right about abusing her powers. For a few moments she watched as Chloe figured out what had just happened, and then the cold black of unconsciousness.
Chloe’s whole world had ended for a second there, or it felt like it, but instead of being gone she found herself in a random place in the hallway, with a now collapsed Max next to her. She realized that they’d certainly accomplished their objectives, and once she caught her breath she picked Max up bridal style, groaning pretty loud as she got a grip on how best to carry her, and hurried to the truck.
After 5 minutes her girlfriend was still asleep, and they were well on their way to the price residence. After 20 she was starting to get really scared - she’d found the evidence on her person, and had seen the photos she wasn’t supposed to before she replaced them. When Max finally did come to she was laying in a reasonably comfy bed, the punk was at her laptop looking at various Web MD style sites, fairly desperate for a way to resuscitate her sleeping beauty, tears streaming down her face.
With eyes still closed, the brunette’s hands went to her forehead, accompanied by a loud groan. “What the hell even happened...” she muttered in a whiny tone, one that was not very usual of the girl that Chloe had grown up with. Her world was spinning inside her head, and the girl’s continued efforts to play with time felt as though they were literally punishing her for their natural curiosity. She could feel the bed beneath her, but it was like she was simply floating in a totally white room with nothing beneath her. Gradually, over a few minutes, her mind darkened, allowing her to finally open her eyes. She realized that Chloe had been talking to her, but she hadn’t even heard it... “Chloe?” She asked, recognizing this as the punkette’s bedroom. “How did I get here?” She queried.
“It’s nothing that you need to see, in fact, I don’t want you to see it... it wouldn’t do anything besides hurt.” Max looked at the pictures of Rachel and sighed. “I don’t know, I feel like like we need something else...” she muttered before spying Nathan’s camera in the corner. Taking it, she ejected the film after rewinding it and popped it into her pocket, as if she had done that a million times. “In any other situation, I’d say lets try it... but after some of the things I’ve seen this week I literally think it would be safer for you to just go with it...” Not only did Max not want Chloe to get hurt or killed again by some crazy nonsense, there was also the nosebleeds. Max figured that the more she manipulated time, the worse the head pains would get... plus, her rewind is the only time she felt like she was unique... different from the crowd... maybe Chloe would make her feel that way in the future, but teenagers are teenagers.

“Yes! Grinning widely, Chloe hugged her ‘fiancé’. “I fuckign knew you hella have the hots for me! Now all we have to do is get outta here and get married!” Said the bluenette excitedly. Though, it won’t be so easy when they didn’t have any money. Hopefully they’ll have enough of the handicapped fond -after paying Frank- left to go away from Oregon and get married. After giving her a quick peck on the lips, Chloe took her hand and dragged her to her truck. “C’mon, super gay Max, I’, gonna treat you to lunch.” More or less.
Max was definitely surprised by Chloe’s excited state. Though she wasn’t sure she believed this was a real proposal, the message had come across. Chloe liked Max, and Max liked her back. Pretty simple when someone thinks about it to be honest. The brunette raised an eyebrow as the punk gave her a light kiss and then virtually dragged her away. Of course, Max didn’t let that happen for long, so she was able to walk most of the way. “Fine fine, you suckered me into it, I’m a sucker for lunch!” She said with a grin, wondering if Chloe was still as serious about getting to the bottom of the mystery in Arcadia Bay as she was.
