here is the statement of brandon bernard’s legal team, who put it far better than i ever could.
[ID: Attorney statement re: execution of Brandon Bernard.
“Tonight, those of us who love Brandon Bernard - and we are many - are full of righteous anger and deep sadness at the actions of the federal government in taking his life. Brandon’s live mattered. To us, his legal team, to his two beautiful and talented daughters, to his mother, brother, and sister, and to the countless people around the country who came to know him and his story in recent weeks.
Brandon made one terrible mistake at age 18. But he did not kill anyone, and he never stopped feeling shamed and profound remorse for his actions in the crime that took the lives of Todd and Stacie Bagley. And he spent the rest of his life sincerely trying to show, as he put it, that he “was not that person”. Brandon showed us that and so much more, carrying himself with grace and generosity, and always treating everyone around him with kindness and respect. He worked to help other troubled kids avoid similar devastating mistakes, and he lived every day his commitment to serving both God and humanity.
Many things went wrong to put Brandon on death row, including egregious government misconduct in concealing evidence and misleading the jury, which the courts refused to remedy. Before Brandon’s execution, five of the jurors who sentenced him to death said they no longer stood by that verdict. They joined the lead appellate prosecutor on Brandon’s case in urging President Trump to commute his death sentence to life without parole. Those pleas for clemency were joined by hundreds of thousands of supporters, including celebrities, faith leaders, and members of the United States Congress.
Brandon’s execution is a stain on America’s criminal justice system. But I pray that even in his death, Brandon will advance his commitment to helping others by moving us closer to a time when this country does not pointlessly and maliciously kill young Black men who pose no threat to anyone, when we hold prosecutors to the highest standards of integrity in every case, and when our leaders exercise their moral authority where it is needed.
We were proud to call Brandon our client and our friend, and we will miss him greatly.”

this execution is a needlessly cruel and inhumane act as well as a great tragedy.
brandon bernard’s is not the only federal execution scheduled. according to the bbc, trump has five executions scheduled up until january 20th. we need to keep fighting so that these executions do not happen.
i wish brandon’s family all the best and i’m so sorry we could not do more.
i’m including a few links to spread awareness and inform people.
https://innocenceproject.org/ is an organization that uses modern forensic technology to overturn wrongful convictions.
https://prisonbookprogram.org/for-people-in-prison/national-prisoner-resource-list/ is a list of resources that those who have loved ones in prison or who are in prison can use. it has links to several other similar lists as well.
https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/ is a website that provides information about capital punishment in the united states. one of the first things written on their website is “At least 18 people have been executed despite serious doubts about their guilt. Official misconduct is the leading cause of wrongful capital convictions.”
brandon’s life mattered. black lives matter. we need to keep up this energy to fight for justice in an unjust criminal system even when his name is not trending on twitter anymore.
IF YOU’RE GOING TO REBLOG THIS PLEASE REBLOG THIS EDITED VERSION. also sign this petition to keep pervis payne from being executed: https://innocenceproject.org/petitions/stop-execution-pervis-payne/
thank you to girlbosshannibal for the post about the petition in the first place.
On December 10, 2020, Brandon Bernard is scheduled to be executed by the federal government for a crime he committed when he was 18 years old. He has spent 21 years on death row. Five out of the nine surviving jurors that found him guilty and one of his prosecutors no longer agree with his sentence. Please spread his story on social media, email President Trump, and call the Justice Department to ask them to commute his sentence to life without parole. Brandon Bernard’s crime is incompatible with his punishment and we cannot allow the federal government to follow through with this.
Please click the source link to be taken to his website, which details his life in prison and ways you can advocate for him. In the replies are a page with specific actions we can take to help his case and an Instagram post to share.

Your daily reminder that Black Lives Still Fucking Matter. Casey Christian Goodson Jr. was mudered by police on December 4th and no one is talking about it. He was shot three times in the back entering his own home. The police are not going to get any better under Joe Biden, in fact, they will continue to get worse because there will be less media scrutiny. There is little to no media coverage of this story because of that very reason. We have to keep these stories in the public eye and continue to fight to defund the police just as hard in 2021.
Here’s a link to the full story from one of the few media sources reporting it.
Just found a petition. So far it has less than 5,000 signatures. Sign here:

It should not be that low. White middle class liberals don’t actually care about Black Lives Matter, which they are proving with their disinterest of all police shootings since Joe Biden was elected.

i made a post a while back when it happened about seeing a black unhoused unarmed man with schizoaffective disorder, Kurt A. Reinhold, shot by the orange county sherriff’s department who was stopped for supposedly “jaywalking” and was murdered in a matter of minutes in broad daylight by armed deputies assigned to the sherriff’s “homeless outreach team”
his family is taking action against the county and this is their gofundme. they are really close to their goal so if you could please please boost this post and donate if you can. the orange county DA, todd spitzer, is incredibly corrupt and its a very conservative area. this sherriff’s department is insidious. the previous post i made has the contact information for the city officials to demand justice for Kurt Reinhold
south orange county’s black lives matter instagram page has more resources and info about this case and ways to get involved that they regularly update. it’s a good page to follow if you live in the area, also.
Today is a good day to remind people that Queen Liliuokalani was deposed by the US Government because of sheer greed, racism, and misogyny.
The Hawaiian Islands were made a territory and then a state because of greed. Because of coffee and pineapples and sugar cane. Because the US gov’t did not want to be beholden to a Queen of Hawaii, or any Hawaiian leader for that matter. And neither did the people wanting to sell those products so they pressured the US gov’t (like they continue to do).
The Hawaiian islands are seeking to become a true sovereign nation with political recognition of their sovereignty. Please consider purchasing goods from Native Hawaiians rather than the haole, outsider corporations that are selling the same thing and undercutting. Also consider supporting the various Native Hawaiian organizations (NHOA) found here and here.

I posted my original donation post on 11/20/20 here [x] detailing how my hours were cut from 40/week to 15/week due to going on a work-from-home ADA accommodation because of COVID. But on 12/2/20, we had some unfortunate updates regarding our beautiful baby..
I had my anatomy scan at 20 weeks exactly, and they found some characteristic signs of spina bifida. Our baby is only in the 3rd percentile for growth, has a notable “lemon sign”, where their head in the second trimester is lemon shaped, and they have fluid in their brain.
The black portions of their head are supposed to be filled with that grey and white texture, and you can see the lemon shape to their head.
We will be seeing a perinatologist to confirm the diagnosis, or figure out the differential diagnosis, like another neural tube defect. This is going to increase our bills, because we will have to travel to different cities to meet with specialists, and have more procedures done. The cut in my hours is both a blessing and a curse, because I now have more time to dedicate to these appointments without altering my teaching schedule, but obviously less money going to gas, food, and house bills, not to mention co-pays and up front procedure costs once the 1st of the year rolls around.
We could be looking at surgery in the near future with me on bed-rest, or surgery right after the baby is born, with a NICU stay at a hospital a few cities away. This is all speculation based on if it is spina bifida.
If anyone can give us a signal boost, that would be super helpful. The past 24 hours have been a whirlwind for my husband and I. We’ve struggled with previous miscarriages, plus fertility issues from my intersex condition and autoimmune disease, so finding out this news about our rainbow baby at 20 weeks has been devastating.
We are praying that our baby is viable and we can continue this pregnancy. I am hopeful that they are, because I feel them moving around pretty consistently now.
This is really hard to share with my followers, let alone random people, so if you have any kind words of encouragement that would be appreciated. Please keep us in your thoughts. Any money donated will go to food, travel/gas, medical costs, and baby supplies. I will add more once we have a better idea of what baby will need accessibility wise.

I’ve had two eugenicists/ableists message me terrible things about my baby, but we’ve had countless other messages that are kind and loving and telling us to stay strong. We are so thankful for all of your kind messages, thank you to everyone who has boosted, messaged, and donated so far. We love all of you!
If you send any cruel messages, you will be blocked. We do not believe in aborting children because they are disabled. We don’t believe in eugenics.
