I just looked this up and it turned out it was about a production of “cat on a hot tin roof”, a play which famously features a closeted gay lead character. a member of the audience was catcalling female actresses and shouting homophobic abuse when actor john lacy, who played the character big daddy, paused his performance and called him out. the heckler replied “what are you going to do about it?” to which lacy responded by leaping down into the audience and knocking him to the ground.

My father had taught me to be nice first, because you can always be mean later, but once you’ve been mean to someone, they won’t believe the nice anymore. So be nice, be nice, until it’s time to stop being nice, then destroy them.

Essential oils are highly concentrated natural oils, extracted from plants, flowers, roots, wood, bark, or seeds, and are widely known for their healing and purifying benefits. Because of their powerful antioxidant properties, essential oils have been used for thousands of years in a variety of different applications including soaps, perfumes, aromatherapy, skincare products, as well as medicinal purposes.

1. Lavender: This highly versatile oil is best used for its soothing properties. Lavender relaxes the mind and body, and helps aid in reducing inflammation. To reduce stress, try applying this oil to a small area of skin, or adding a few drops to a diffuser or pillow for a good nights sleep.

2. Peppermint: Just a whiff of this oil can provide you with a natural burst of energy and improve mental alertness. Peppermint oil can be used as massage oil, lotion, and mouthwash. It also helps alleviate symptoms of congestion and aids in digestion. Try adding a drop of peppermint oil to your herbal tea to help improve digestion.

3. Sandalwood: This exotic oil is long lasting and can help calm and focus the senses. Applying a few drops of sandalwood oil to your body lotion can help improve skin hydration and relieve tension.

4. Bergamot:  Bergamot is used to treat stress, anxiety, as well as a number of skin conditions like eczema. It’s important that this oil is diluted before applying to the skin, as it can potentially burn skin if applied in its pure form. Bergamot can also be used as incense or in a vaporizer.

5. Rosemary: Known for its rejuvenating effects, this oil can help relieve headaches, boost your memory, alleviate stress, and stimulate circulation in the scalp to treat dandruff and other scalp-related conditions. Try adding a few drops of rosemary oil to your shampoo for healthy, shiny hair.

6. Tea Tree:  One of the most popular and effective essential oils, tea tree oil is widely used to fight infections and boost the immune system. Tea tree oil’s healing benefits are immense and can be used to treat skin conditions, cuts and burns, dandruff, athlete’s foot, and blemishes among many others. Try dabbing a drop of this oil on skin to help heal blemishes or add a few drops to your shampoo to improve scalp health.

7. Chamomile: This oil has powerful calming benefits. It is also an effective mood booster. Chamomile can be used in steam or vapor therapy to help relieve stress.

8. Ylang -Ylang: This oil has calming properties and is beneficial for all skin types—especially oily, congested, or inflamed skin. Ylang-Ylang has a sweet flowery fragrance and can be found in a variety of different skin and hair products. Try blending a few drops into your lotion or add to your bath to help unwind after a long day.

CAN I ADD TO THIS TOO?

IT’S NOT ‘COULD OF’, THAT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER. IT’S ‘COULD HAVE’. SAME APPLIES TO ‘SHOULD HAVE’.

And this is why my students look at me as though I’m the devil when I try to tell them that no i’m not lying this really is a thing

IT’S ‘COULDN’T CARE LESS’ NOT ‘COULD CARE LESS’ IF YOU COULD CARE LESS THAT MEANS YOU CARE

‘’It’s just fictional! It doesn’t hurt anyone!’’ The Jaws movies sparked a shark-hunting trend that resulted in a decline of shark species up to as high as 90% But sure! Yeah! Fiction has no bearing on real life and human actions what so ever!

Every time a dog movie comes out, that breed goes up in demand, overbreeding occurs, and then a huge influx of rejects dumped at shelters because of people not prepared for the dog’s unique needs - they just wanted a real life Pongo.

On the flip side, you have Eileen Leahy not only allowing deaf/hard of hearing viewers representation in the form of a badass deaf hunter, but inspiring people who had not previously been exposed to that culture to raise their understanding/awareness (I heard of at least one person who decided to take ASL classes as a direct result).

Of course fiction matters! The stories we tell, and choose to fill our minds with, stick with us and change the way we see the world.

Reblogging again for Panda’s enlightening addition to this post

Fiction influences people to do things that don’t go against their already-established morals.

Jaws banked on fear of sharks and led to shark-killing as a result. It didn’t turn shark-lovers into shark-haters, it turned people who were apathetic about sharks into shark-haters by giving them an emotional response to sharks in general.

Dog movies lead to more people buying that breed of dog, because buying a dog is not a morally objectionable choice. They give people an emotional response to that breed of dog where they had none before.

Representation works because listening to other people is not a morally objectionable choice either. And it gives people a (positive) emotional response to the people being represented, again where there was no emotional response before.

What about violent video games, the 90s moral guardian bogeyman? Most people have “do not kill” in their already-established moral system, they’re not gonna go out and start killing people just because they play video games about it. The point here isn’t “giving people an emotional response where they had none before” (since society as a whole has an ingrained emotional response to violence already), it’s “giving people a way to express already-existing emotions in a safe way” aka catharsis.

Fiction is important because it shows multiple ways of seeing the world. Some of those ways are good, some of those ways are… not so good… and people use their existing morals as a way to decide which is which.

they got mad

Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong wrote this about his father, who died of cancer on September 1st, 1982. At his father’s funeral, Billie cried, ran home and locked himself in his room. When his mother got home and knocked on the door to Billie’s room, Billie simply said, “Wake me up when September ends.”

So I’d be angry too if people kept this shit up every single year.

i am going to reblog this until i die

…oh

Seriously its just not funny and I wish people would stop
