‘A League of Their Own’ TV Show isn’t a reboot

I need to get this off of my chest before I explode after seeing the same “is there no creativity in hollywood anymore” take over and over again. Amazon Prime’s ‘A League of Their Own" isn’t a reboot of the film, if anything it’s going to be a more true account as to what the All American Girls Professional Baseball League was.

The AAGPBL survived for over a decade and had hundreds of women from all over North America in its ranks. That means hundreds of different stories and experiences that the show is pulling from – Not just the film.

It’s not a reboot, it’s more of a spiritual successor.

Yes, we’re revisiting the Peaches but that’s due to this team becoming iconic thanks to the film. I have a feeling that any of the direct comparisons that can be made from the film to the show will be homages and send ups to the film because it’s so iconic and helped bring the AAGPBL back into the cultural consciousness.

This show is going to be Queer and have multiple queer characters. It has multiple POC characters because the film only focused on white characters when there were POC players in the League. And of course, the show is going to focus on the amazing Black female athletes that weren’t given the shot that their white counterparts were and had to pave their own way.

This show is going to go a lot deeper than the movie ever could, and with that comes a lot of truth that the film had to gloss over to make it as palatable as possible for the masses in 1992.

So, please, give the show a chance when it comes out on August 12th and don’t yell about how it’s just a silly reboot when it’s going to be more closer to the real history of the AAGPBL and to the stories of these amazing women who changed the face of baseball for the better.

chrisevans: I kept seeing videos of these touch pads for dogs so I figured I’d give them a shot. After a couple days of training he began connecting the dots. This video is from a couple days ago when he was just starting to understand that the buttons are buttons. He’s already made so much progress and I laugh out loud every time I hear him press one. I thought ‘treat’ would be the most used. Turns out it’s ‘play’ and I fucking love that about him. (This is what I do on a Saturday night)

The "flux" in my gender identity is similar to how my American patriotism fluctuates, as I go from "I am a citizen of the world, who tf needs countries" to "AMERICA FUCK YEAH" and oddly enough that peak of patriotism and womanhood meet in a USA-CAN women's hockey final.
