I'm noticing that art subreddits are starting to get filled with people looking for advice on how to sell their AI "art" because I guess they're finding out that it's NOT some get-rich-quick thing where you just put your art up for sale and people will swarm over to buy it

so now they're looking for tips from actual artists for how to market art and how to present themselves as an artist and how to make their "work" stand out because they don't have a clue about art and how any of this works, and also no one wants to buy AI art because it looks crap and anyone who wants AI art can just make it themselves because it all looks the same anyway

"hey so I've already indirectly used your work without your permission but there's no automated way for me to steal the rest of your knowledge that I need, so uhhh how about you just give it to me so I can turn a quick profit and really stick it to those elitist gatekeeping douchebag artists like you"

hahahahaaaa fuck off

oh and btw this should also put an end to that "hey it's just harmless fun" argument because it's not harmless fun if you're making money off it (or trying to)

just ask ao3

and also if Redbubble, Etsy, conventions, etc, end up getting flooded by AI "art" that may well turn people off buying art in general, and make it much harder to find actual art that doesn't look like mass-produced soulless six-fingered crap

and you can't say this is not the exception rather than the rule because in the past week alone I've seen several posts from these people and I've also come across "AI art" on Etsy several times and I've seen people offering "commissions" and... it's a thing

of course it's a thing, because the whole attitude behind all of this is that artists are rich elitist assholes and yeah we hate them for that but we will absolutely take the chance to become one because we don't actually think there's anything wrong with being a rich elitist asshole, the only thing wrong is the fact that it's not us

none of it is harmless fun, it's got everything from disdain for artists to disdain for people who like and buy art because to these people, you're just a mark, an idiot to take advantage of and squeeze money out of

and they know damn well that AI "art" isn't the same as real art and that they're lying and trying to trick people, because otherwise they wouldn't try to pass it off as their own work, they'd be up-front about it being AI the same way artists provide info about their media
