About the New RWBY Episode...
I’m literally going to temporarily go off my hiatus to talk about this, particularly the last part. Warning, this will be littered with spoilers.
First of all, that was a great fight. I was doubting it since the trailer didn’t look the best, but it was very impressive. I do wonder what those weird homing shots were, though... the world will never know.
And then the end came. Like, I’m very torn about this. First of all, it just so happens that Yang and Mercury both happen to be my favorite characters in RWBY, with Yang being the old fav and Mercury being the new one.
First, major props to Yuri for the amazing performance. Like, Mercury’s, “Why did she attack me!?” might have been the strongest delivered line in the whole series... That plan was amazing, though. They purposely drew the grim and I’m trying to figure out if the grim will attack.
However, while it was definitely the fault of the villains since they attacked first, I feel like there were a lot more ways for Yang to have countered. It pains me to say this since she’s my favorite, but she literally could’ve dodged, blocked, or maybe even just lightly hit him in the gut or something. Or even just knocked him out. I know a lot of people argue that she just reacted, that anyone would’ve done that, and that her life was in danger. But well, it wasn’t. She still had aura left, so an attack wouldn’t have killed her, plus she actually had plenty of time to think over her actions. Even a more aggressive person might’ve opted to punch him in the gut or something. Even THAT would’ve been better than breaking a bone, which can cause permanent damage. Even if the truth does get out, I feel like she’ll still be in slight trouble for acting so impulsively.
To be honest, I actually kind of like this since character flaws are great and give Yang a chance to grow, so that’ll be fun. I’m not saying she’s in the wrong since Mercury DID attack first (or she thought he did since that was probably an illusion), but I’m saying that she’ll probably still get in trouble either way, although the punishment would be less severe. That’s what makes this a great plan, since Cinder probably knew that Yang would react like that and purposely did that so she’d get in trouble no matter what.
I do wonder if Mercury and Emerald were in on the plan, though. I feel like Mercury probably lost the match on purpose, but I don’t know if he was expecting to have his leg broken. I’m assuming Cinder told him to lose the match but didn’t mention what would happen afterwards during the illusion cast by, most likely, Neo. It will be interesting, either way.
So those are a rough outline of my thoughts. Sorry this was long... if anyone wants to talk about it, I’d be glad to!
