Hey! I'm a huge Hunger Games fan, and I ship Katniss/Peeta like sooo hard. I made this fan video for them that even has clips included from the most recent movie. I was wondering if you had a minute to check it out and maybe share it on your tumblr or to anyone else who might like it? I would super appreciate it! Thanks!! I hope you like it!

By Melanie Schmitz I suppose, if I had actually vocalized it, I just might have said “Team Peeta”. I’m not sure when my brain made that decision for me or if I’ve just been slowly converted over the course of the two movies, but there’s the truth. Team Peeta Mellark. 100%. » continue »

I’m going to be super succinct on this…or at least try to be. Obviously, this is going to be a little different in the terms of Everlark. They’re apart and there’s so much going on around them.

  • The moment Katniss sees Peeta on-screen with Caesar. “You’re alive.”
  • The choking. Sounds painful,…

Yes, I hope they capture the feeling of longing on screen. It’s central to Katniss’s story. Gosh, she missed him so so much!

I don't know you but when I read the books I thought that pearl that peeta give to katniss was going to be more useful like she using it to help him remember something but at the end it was useless and I think it wasn't even worth mention it in the books at all

With regards to artifacts in the series, I don’t think the pearl is meant to be a catalyst like the mockingjay pin is, but I think it still brings a lot to the story with its symbolism, how it represents Peeta in a way and Katniss’ relationship with him, and why Katniss physically holds on to it the most.

I think the pearl is more for Katniss to help her feel connected to Peeta while he was in the Capitol and to the old Peeta after she discovered he’s hijacked. I don’t think Peeta seeing it and being told about it would really help him remember anything.

Yes, I agree, the pearl was more for Katniss than Peeta. It was her connection to Peeta when he was captive.

At first I expected it to re-emerge as some plot-driven device, but I’m actually glad it didn’t, because it might have felt really contrived or too melodramatic.  It just seemed to have more power as a purely symbolic element.

Exactly. I’ve read some fan fiction where the pearl re-appears, but it just seems to fall short. Peeta gives her the pearl just before the end of the quell, and she has it until the Capitol. Once it is list , she is lost, until she has Peeta back. It served its purpose, and once she has Peeta, she has what she needs.

notanislander, I couldn’t agree more!  The days of Katniss needing a symbolic substitute are finally over - that’s the pearl-resolution that I, as a reader, needed.

In the Bible, they also use “the pearl of great price” as a stand in for salvation. Peeta= pearl= salvation.

Collins has so many subtle Biblical references, so interesting when you know what you’re seeing.

Notanislander, we are on the same page!  I just posted something along the same lines as you.

Great minds and all that ;)
