He hummed and turned in his bed to wrap an arm around her waist and press a sleepy kiss against her shoulder. “I don’t sleep very heavily, Nat.” he mumbled, pressing his forehead against her neck. “Try to get some decent sleep now?”

Natasha nuzzled the side of his head and relaxed, running her fingertips in circles over his bare back.

“Yeah,” She murmured against his ear, letting his body heat and slow breathing lull her into sleep.

Steve woke at the shifting of his mattress, stiffening slightly as someone wrapped their arm around him. He only relaxed after a moment of reminding himself he was somewhere safe and no one would try to hurt him in his own bed of all places, and brought his hand down to cover hers. “Takes a special kinda stupid to get into bed with a sleeping soldier.” He mumbled, turning slightly to look at her.

“Didn’t mean to wake you,” She murmured against his skin, leaning up to press a kiss to his cheek.

“Wasn’t sleeping very well,” She explained quietly and pressed more kisses to his skin before pressing herself closer to him.

A spy? He could see that, she certainly wasn’t one to be messed with. “Oh no. I am no superhero. Just a warrior,” he insisted. He couldn’t be like them, could he? Wakanda was him, what he lived for. A hero should protect all.

“When we are young, we are taught to fight. Generation from generation. I hope to one day teach my son as well. I truly appreciate your praise, Natasha, but it is better served to someone a little more extraordinary. I hardly think I could hold my own against you.”

A small smile crossed her features at the compliment and she looked down for a moment before making eye contact with him again.

“I appreciate that. I’d enjoy sparring with you some time,” She replied, glancing out the window again. “It’s so beautiful here.”

“Thank you. However, he was still an innocent man. I lost myself in my pursuit of revenge.” A soft sigh slipped passed his lips, his eyes falling closed.

“You work aside such extraordinary people who can do things I could only dream of. How do you keep up?” he said with a soft chuckle, attempting to lighten the mood.

“I was a spy,” She shrugged. “You learn how to work around people easily, powers or not. It doesn’t hurt that they’re all secretly dorks.”

Natasha moved to lean against the wall, observing him silently. “You don’t seem to be doing too bad in the superhero department. Your fighting style’s impressive.”

“Then may I ask you return the favor?” he asked teasingly. “I may be King, but I would like to think myself a friend.”

T’Challa pressed his back against the cool wall, fingers grasping the tooth on his necklace. “I truly am sorry for almost killing your friends. That sounds awfully when I say it out loud…”

“Of course, T’Challa,” She replied softly.

Natasha let out a small chuckle, nodding slightly. “I understand why you did it though. Barnes hasn’t been himself for a long time.”

“Ms. Romanoff.”

He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t outraged when she attacked him, allowing Bucky’s escape. It was for the better though. There was no need for innocent blood to be shed. “No. No hard feelings. I suppose there was no gentler way to stop me, no?” he said with a half smile.

“You certainly live up to your title,” She mused, walking slowly towards the window. 

“And please, call me Natasha.”

          ❝ is all that bravado just a cover up for your fear? ❞ he teased, nudging her shoulder lightly. 

          being with her had always been easy. and that’s what made this whole thing hurt so much. there were so many what ifs and could have beens. he sighed and shook his head as they walked out of his flat. ❝ i’ll drive, ❞ he said, his voice tight as he squeezed her hand before releasing it.

“No, it’s because you’re going to lose,” She teased in return.

At his tone, Natasha curiously looked up at him before nodding and getting in the passenger’s side of the vehicle. Her mind wandered through possible situations and outcomes while she waited for him to get in. 

The sound of his door closing brought her back to reality and she looked at him seriously.

“James,” She said quietly. “I want to try something.”

               he hated that he was disappointed by her response before managing a tight smile. he swallowed hard before turning away from her. it was a waste of both their times to talk about this. neither of them could change anything.

              and it wasn’t his fault as much as it wasn’t hers. it just reminded him of how everyone moved on without him what he was still nursing his wounds.

              ❝ yeah. maybe in due time. you want to spar? it might help.. take my mind off things, ❞ he offered, his voice quiet.

Natasha allowed him to pull away from her hold, though not without a twinge of disappointment. She hated not knowing how to make him feel more at ease. Gently, she let her hand sit on his outer arm, rubbing her fingertips in circles to try and soothe him.

“We can do anything you want to do,” She replied quietly and earnestly.

Bobbi slouched against the counter and yawned.  She watched Natasha as she approached, and shrugged.  “Long day.  I was mostly kidding, but I’m probably just tired.  I’m a grouch,” she added, and pulled together a smile.

Natasha raised a brow. “Do you want to cuddle and watch a movie?” She offered. “I can wrap you in that blanket and make you tea too.”
