4. Mermaid AU((I was thinking that Belle could probably be either a human or another mermaid. It’s up to you how you want it to go. There’s no need to match length, and if you’d like something else then please let me know. :) ))

Fay had traveled very far and very often throughout her long life beneath the sea. She and her family, more of a pod than anything, would often migrate back and forth between the Atlantic and the Pacific oceans. Her summers would be spent in the cool waters of the Pacific, and her winters would be spent in the warmer Atlantic. It was a life that she loved, and she wouldn’t give it up for anything. She never actually gave it up; her perfect life was stolen from her by someone who wanted nothing more than to make money. So she had been captured and trapped within this lagoon to become a tourist attraction. Sure, she could escape, if she could somehow manage to drag herself over the dunes of sand her captor had dumped to keep her from escaping. What was even more cruel was the fact that she could clearly see the ocean that was once her home, but she couldn’t get there. Her family had tracked her down, and used to come all the time to visit and try to help, but had left for fear of being caught as well. Now she was alone.

Most days she remained underwater as best as she could to keep from being seen, but today she needed some fresh air. She wasn’t certain if any tours would be going on today, but she also didn’t care. She needed a moment of sunlight. When she surfaced, however, she noticed someone watching her. It didn’t matter, she decided, who they were. The sun was shining and it was the first time she hadn’t had people above the water shouting for her to show herself in a very long time.

Belle had never liked when this new attraction had been set up. It was cruel and wicked for someone to do such a thing. She noticed that the attraction stayed under the water most days.

She had become a volunteer at the attraction so she could observe when there were no tours. And today was one of those days. She was leaning against a rock, reading silently when she heard the water moving some way away from her. She looked up from her book and smiled sweetly. “H-hi.” She whispered. “Its okay. It’s only me. There are no tours today.” She said as she slid down the rocks and closer to the water.

The mermaid flinched at the sound of the woman’s voice, but didn’t move. She was one of the volunteers, and had never hurt Fay or tried to goad her into coming to the surface, but she no longer trusted humans. It was just the way she was. “Good,” she replied softly, though her voice sounded strange. Not only was English not her first language, seeing as her people spoke with same manner of ecolocation as dolphins and whales, but because she hadn’t spoken in ages. She turned her head to watch as the woman came closer, before she disappeared beneath the surface.

When she surfaced again, she was closer, but still a safe distance away. “Do you have any food?” It was hard to come by in the lagoon, and she had already finished off most of the live fish her captors had dumped into the waters earlier. They didn’t know how much mermaids needed to eat, and they didn’t realize that the amount of fish they gave wasn’t quite enough. It was nearly there, but not quite.

Belle frowned when she saw the mermaid flinch. “Please. I- I’m not trying to scare you. Or test you or anything.” She said gently, stopping suddenly as she disappeared beneath the water again.

“I- I can get food. I’ll be right back!” She said with a smile. She scrambled carefully up the slippery rocks and then disappeared. After a while she returned with two buckets of live fish. She climbed back down the rocks, nearly slipping in at one point but catching her balance. She sat down near the water and held the buckets on either side of her. “I’ve been studying mermaids. In books. But.. I’m not sure how accurate they are.” She said, making a face. “Oh here. Fish. It’s all I could grab before I was caught.” She smiled with a small giggle. “I’m Belle.” She said gently.

She watched as the woman ran off, a little surprised by how willing she was to help. When she returned, Fay eyed the buckets hungrily. "Why would you want to study me? I would assume you'd be more interested in making money off of me." She did find it interesting, however, that there had been books written about her people. "I have nothing better to do today. Ask me what you would like, and I'll answer. You can see if your books are correct, and I'll be able to have a meal." The woman's smile was nice, and she nodded. Belle was a pretty name, and it certainly suited the human woman. "I am Fay."

Her name wasn't known to anyone aside from herself before now. She had refused to speak for anyone, but it seemed that now she would be talking for a while. Fay found that she didn't mind it, even if Belle was a human; she had been lonely in the lagoon, terribly lonely, and having someone to talk to would be nice.

8. Drawing come to life AU

((Hey! It’s been a while. Let me know if you’d like something different, whether it be a different au or different take on this one. :) ))

She was an artist, or at least she wanted to be. She was constantly drawing or doodling, and whenever she could, she would paint. Drawing was the easiest, though. She would just need a quiet space to work and the right tools, and she would go ahead and get to work. Lately she’d been focusing on drawing people. She would think of a person, or a concept for a person, and draw them over and over again. The more she drew, the better she got, until she could create life-like images of said person, and once she was satisfied that the person was perfect, she would move on.

Currently, she was working on a man. She didn’t bother to name her drawings, since she didn’t plan on ever showing anyone. She had simply dubbed this man “The Guy.” She didn’t know what his life was like, who he was, or anything about him. She didn’t go so far into detail when she drew. Fay spent quite a bit of her free time working on him. Whenever she wasn’t studying for an exam or sitting in classes, she was drawing. Since she lived alone off campus, she didn’t have to deal with a roommate interrupting her.

So her surprise and fear was understandable when the night that she finished his final drawing, a full body work, she awoke to hear a noise coming from her living room. After a moment’s hesitation, she grabbed the nearest thing she could find, which was a lamp she had never bothered to put a lightbulb in, and slipped from her room.

With her bare feet moving as quietly as possible across the floor, she moved down the hall and peeked into the living room. She almost dropped the lamp at what she saw. There he was, the man from her drawings. He was alive, in her house, in the clothes she drew him in. “G-Get out!” She blurted it out before she could stop herself, her voice shriller than she would have liked. Of course she was curious as to how he had gotten there, but she didn’t consider the possibility that her drawing had come to life.

“I’m not exactly sure.” She couldn’t believe that they were potentially adopting a squirrel, of all the possible animals they could have chosen. Alphonse seemed to listen to his request, before he moved off towards the nearest tree, his tail bouncing as he ran. He stopped every once and a while looked back to check that Max was following him, seeming to be very excited. Apparently he was going to follow Max’s request.

“I’m coming Alphonse, i’m coming.” Max followed the excited small creature as he lead him to a tree, he seemed to have have the power to both understand and talk to animals… he could feel that power when he first started talking Alphonse.  Making his way over to the tree that the squireel was heading towards. “This one?”

The squirrel stopped when he asked the question, and almost seemed to nod, before he scampered up the tree and disappeared into an almost undetectable crack between two high branches. When Alphonse reappeared, he wasn't alone. With him came a very plump squirrel, most likely a female. Normally males and females would be solitary, but they both seemed to have taken up residence in the same tree.

Fay gave a small smile as she heard that he had decided on Alphonse for the name. It took the squirrel a moment, but it eventually used his body to climb down and then performed the trick in the grass. “Wow,” she said quietly as she watched the squirrel roll around for him and then look at him for his approval.

At first, Max thought the squirrel wasn’t going to be able to do the trick. He thought his influence had run out and then he did the trick and Max’s eye light up bright as he knelt down. “Good boy, Alphonse. Good boy.” He reaches out and rubbing the top of the animal’s head with his finger. Saying what he heard the person say to their dog.

With a laugh, she shook her head. It was an odd sight to see Max petting the squirrel, and the squirrel responding by leaning into his touch. "Are you planning on bringing Alphonse home with us?" He seemed to be so pleased by the little creature and his newfound power that she wouldn't be surprised by almost anything at this point. Alphonse used his two little paws to hold Max's finger there, apparently enjoying the headrub.

“You made it!” She smiled widely once she opened the door and saw the other. She had thrown a small party, if you could even call it that, and she would have been crushed if they hadn’t shown up. “Thank you so much for coming. Help yourself to food or any of the drinks,” Fay said, ushering them inside. There were quite a few people inside, standing around and talking or laughing amongst themselves. There was music coming from somewhere in the house, and a group of people were standing near the television, cheering on their friends as they played some video game. It was more of a regular party than a birthday party, but Fay was enjoying it all the same. “I honestly didn’t think that you would make it. Can you stay for a little while?” She asked.

I told you I was coming, and here I am,” Ian spoke and signed at the same time then handed over the gift basket of fresh muffins, and teas along with a Bath and Bodyworks back in the middle. “Happy Birthday” He added then looked around… more people talking great.

I can stay a little while, then I gotta get to work” The white haired man explained.

"I know you did, but I still didn't think you would. I'm really so glad that you're here." She smiled brightly at him before she took the basket. It was sweet, and she knew she would enjoy those muffins after everyone left. Once he was inside, she shut the door behind him and set the basket down with a few other gifts near the door, most of them seeming small in comparison. "Oh right, I forgot about work. At least you came for a little while. Do you want anything to drink or eat?" She signed.

“I can see that,” she replied quietly, not wanting to ruin his moment by startling the squirrel. She watched him in amazement for a long moment. “I’ve never seen this before. He’s so comfortable with you. Now that he’s taken to you, you should have the honor of naming him. He’s adorable you know. You should feel pretty lucky.”

“I just… Asked him to be my friend… I didn’t actually think it would work.” He says, holding his arm in front of him in order for the animal to return to his hand if it wanted to. “I just thought about him being my friend really hard…” He chuckled as the tail tickled his neck, “Maybe it’s a magical power.”

She smiled as she watched the squirrel run down his arm to his hand. "Maybe it is. It wouldn't surprise me if you did have some sort of power. This is the second one you have, you know." She watched him, smiling in admiration. She wondered if it had known that he wanted to be friends with it, if this was a power of his. Apparently going out was a good idea. "Why don't you ask it to do something else, if you can? We'll see if it really does listen to you."

I Found a Way//Closed//demeurexinconnue

The chuckle told her that she was doing well at being charming and funny. “I suppose that’s right. I’m just not sure if this is my preferred way of keeping busy. My mother seems happy, though. She seems to enjoy this sort of thing.” She gave him a pleasant smile. “Oh, well in that case I believe I’ll have to try to change that. If you’re going to be my company for the night, then we can’t have you being too mysterious. Let’s hope this evening will turn out to be a pleasant one.” She took note of how he studied the room, and she gave him a smile. This might be a little easier than she thought.
“Nice, isn’t it? I sometimes forget how my home might seem to others. I suppose when you live somewhere for too long, that can happen. If you’d like a tour, I’d be happy to do that for you.” She had never seen him here before, so she assumed he had never been here before. As she stood beside him for a moment in silence, she remembered something her mother had said, ‘physical contact is necessary. It’s flirty and will make you seem more interested in him.’ The brunette sighed then, before she moved to take his arm so she wouldn’t lose him in the crowd. Her hand rested lightly against the fabric of his inner elbow, and she gave him an apologetic smile. “I’m afraid I’m not a fan of crowds. If you would rather I let you go so you can preserve that mysterious image of yours, I’ll gladly do so. I would hate to be the reason why people would assume you’re approachable,” she teased.
She raised her glass to her lips and took a small sip, before she took a glance at the people around them. “Most of these people were my father’s friends. I’m afraid I don’t know any of them personally.” She let out a sigh then, and glanced up at him. “Tell me about yourself. You’re a new face around here, and new faces are always exciting when you see the same people everywhere. Did you know my father?” Fay tilted her head at him, curiosity written across her face.
Image

“Agreed… And who knows, perhaps I’ll let some facts about me slide this evening.” Colin smiled, his tone light and teasing before he quirked a brow at her future comment, taking a moment to look around once again. He’d never been in a place more extravagant than this. “Yes, it is… I’m sure a tour of your lovely home would be quite entertaining, and less noisy.” He responds, giving a vague hand wave to the bunches of people around them.     A light weight was then placed upon his elbow. With a simple glance, he discovered it was the other’s hand. Physical contact was something he didn’t particularly receive in high class parties, with personal trading routes however, he was very familiar with it. “Looks like we have something in common, but please stay, I think you add to my ‘mysterious vibe’.” He jokes with a small grin before taking a small sip of his drink as well, deciding to observe the many faces around him, recognizing some but most were strangers to him.     At the mention of her father, he looks to her again, his eyes expressing a moment of thought. “I never knew him personally… Didn’t have the pleasure of doing so But myself and a lot of other business partners I work with have heard a lot about him.” He admits. The name of Fay’s father was definitely something he’s heard once or twice, mostly being paired with not exactly the nicest of things.

"That settles it then. After dinner, when everyone settles in to the drawing room before we have dessert, I'll take you on a tour. If you'd like, we can wait for dinner to be called in the drawing room so you can see it before our tour. Being a hostess has its perks." Having time alone would be good for her cause. She would show him around the bottom floor and maybe to her father's office as well. Bringing him into the residential wing would give him the wrong impression of what she wanted, so they would need to stay away as best they could. She gave him a small smile when he asked her to remain, and she nodded. "Oh, I see. People will look at you and wonder who is the handsome stranger with the hostess. Alright, I suppose I'll stay. I couldn't allow your 'mysterious vibe' to be put in jeopardy, now could I?" Her smile widened at his joke. He was funny, which would make this easier.

So he had heard of him. She wasn't sure if what he had heard was good or bad, but she wasn't going to ask. Fay understood that her father's reputation was not always the best, and sometimes she wondered if it wasn't justifiably so. She found herself pursing her lips as she thought, before she gave a small shake of her head and turned her gaze back to him. "I'm not sure if it would be a pleasure to know him. He wasn't always well liked, you know. You wouldn't imagine the number of friends, or coconspirators, I've lost due to his reputation," she joked, the corners of her lips turning up into a mischievous smile.

"So tell me, how did my mother find you? You could at least tell me that secret. It'll be our warmup for when you actually start letting slip the details of your life," she said, giving his arm a gentle squeeze. As she looked around them, she found herself actually becoming a little worried. She had to reel him in if she hoped to save their family, but there was a very real fear that he may find someone that he was more interested in. She needed to keep him occupied if she wanted him to stay with her. "I hope you don't mind me keeping you to myself. I find that once I find company, I'm not very fond of letting go for the night."

"I can see that," she replied quietly, not wanting to ruin his moment by startling the squirrel. She watched him in amazement for a long moment. "I've never seen this before. He's so comfortable with you. Now that he's taken to you, you should have the honor of naming him. He's adorable you know. You should feel pretty lucky."

The small animal seemed to sense his intentions, and approached, still tentative yet willing to give him a chance. Its tiny nose twitched as it moved close to his palm, before it stood and rested its tiny paws on his fingers. It was interested, that was clear, and seemed fairly calm with him.

He chuckled as the squirrel began to get closer and closer, finally starting to not only touch his hand but climb on top of it as well. The man waiting for the animal to completely stand on his palm before he slowly pulled away from the ground, standing up straight. “There we go. Fun right?” He asked the creature.

Fay almost couldn't believe her eyes as she watched him actually lift the squirrel. That kind of thing just didn't happen, except if the person was him, apparently.

It wasn't like the squirrel could speak, but its body language showed how excited it was. It nibbled on his shirt a bit, tasting the hem of his sleeve before it left his palm to scramble onto his shoulder, where it looked down over his back at then at his face.

She took his hand to lead him, smiling as he seemed to be lost in thought. She didn’t try to speak then since she would rather let him take it all in, and she simply walked beside him in a comfortable silence. Part of her wondered if this did the photos justice for him, and at the same time she wondered what he would think of the other parts of the city. She moved a little closer, following his gaze. Fay didn’t want to walk too fast for him, not when he seemed to be so intrigued by the area around them.

Max didn’t even realize he was lost in thought as he looked at the park in front of him. The man completely seeming to forget that people existed, even Fay. The man loosening his grip ad he walked into a field, watching a squirrel bounce around. Max smiling as he held his hand out, kneeling down, wanting to pet it.

When he let go of her hand, she smiled and watched him go. She followed after him, but when he knelt down she stopped. She didn't want to scare away the squirrel when he seemed so interested. Instead, Fay sat down in the grass with her legs stretched out in front of her and her hands propping her up so she could watch him. She had to admit, it was sweet to see him interacting with the animal.

Meanwhile, the squirrel seemed interested in him. Maybe it was because he was different the others who visited the park, or maybe it was because so many people had fed it that it was used to human company, but it didn't seem to be afraid of him, or at least as afraid of him as it would be of others.
