remember, bathhouses and gay bars were closed in the name of children who might be lured within, who might see ‘obscenity’ in the public spaces near them. The act of bringing up the Child has historically been a method of disappearing societal undesirables like this is both hypersecurity logics (like Ive mentioned before, the idea of all Public Space as the sorta capitalist social authoritarianism of The Mall/Disney Land) combined w the sort of ideologies that fuel geographic gentrification. People should be more internally critical of these impulses, I believe

the problem is humans and how we’ve irreparably destroyed the planet, not vegans buying pleather lmfao

There are a lot of times I feel like just…flipping the vegan script.

It’s not ‘polyester’ it’s plastic

It’s not ‘vegan leather’ it’s plastic

Its not ‘faux fur’ it’s plastic

Plastic is a pollutant and causes far more damage to the environment both now and in the future than leather or wool.

Please stop telling me that the Plastic Lyfe is the only life, it is not. My leather shoes will last a decade where pleather is lucky to last 12 months. Leather (and wool) decompose and are renewable. Plastic is neither of those.

THANK YOUUUUUUU~

A single wash cycle of plastic-based fiber (polyester, poly fleece, faux fur) may release 700,000 pieces of microplastic into our waters. Nasty stuff.

aw dangit

Wool is the most environmentally friendly fabric despite being an animal product.

Using wool isnt even harming sheep

the chemicals used to process leather and wool to make it fast fashion and wearable are equally as harmful and i won’t even get into how harmful industrial animal production is for the environment 🤷

Catherine Opie, from “Domestic" series, 1995-1998.

In 1998 Catherine Opie embarked (along with her dog) on a “great American road trip.” Over three months she completed a 9,000-mile journey across the United States photographing lesbian families and couples in their home environments. The resulting series of photographs titled Domestic (1995–98) presents these families involved in everyday household activities: relaxing in their backyard, hanging out in their kitchen, or playing with their children. There is no sensationalism here. These intimate photographs speak both to Opie’s identification with her subjects and to the overwhelming absence of such images in mainstream representations.

And defending the inclusion of transsexual sisters in women’s spaces does not threaten the safety of any woman. The AIDS movement, for example, battled against the right-wing characterization of gay men as a “high-risk group.” We won an understanding that there is no high-risk group - there are high-risk behaviors. Therefore, creating safety in women’s space means we have to define unsafe behavior - like racist behavior by white women towards women of color, or dangerous insensitivity to disabilities.
Transsexual women are not a Trojan horse trying to infiltrate women’s space. There have always been transsexual women helping to build the women’s movement - they are part of virtually every large gathering of women. They want to be welcomed into women’s space for the same reason every woman does - to feel safe.
