"Humans are the only mammal that cannot breathe and swallow at the same time, and we are the only species that can choke on its own food. The reason? The lowering of the voice box in our throats (during infancy) enables us to create the enormous range of sounds used in producing language; but this lowering of the voice box comes at a big cost in adulthood."

Compare the above pictures (top is of a human, bottom is of a dog)

First Hellos

Well, I just got my tonsils out yesterday and I have my first day of work orientation at the Henry Ford Museum tomorrow. Yaaay. I'm usually a big baby with an embarrassingly low pain tolerance, but I guess I'm just gonna have to suck it up.  I'm still a little disappointed I never got any calls to interview for all the veterinary assistant/receptionist jobs I applied for but, oh well. You win some you lose some. Hopefully this volunteering I'm doing on the farm will be the experience I need to make my resume stand out next time. I mean in just the last three days I was there I saw a bull and stallion get castrated, I learned a significant amount about farm animal nutrition and I saved a baby bird. However, once I move back down to Detroit, I'm going to see if there are any animal related jobs in the city, or at the very least if I can shadow at a vet clinic down there.

Speaking of moving back down to the city, our apartment is finally vacant!! So on Sunday Anna and I will be paying our June rent, picking up our keys and moving some stuff in. Yay for exciting things! I won't be living down there all summer but I might stay Monday nights just because my Tuesday morning lab is so early and traffic sucks heading down there. Also, I think Nate (my boyfriend) is coming down from Lansing on Sunday, taking a break from his big engineering internship, and visiting me.

Anyway, that's all for now folks, talk to ya soon!
