Photo: Andrews Oteng.

November 8, 2015 #Kumasi #ghana

Andrews Oteng is a 12 year old traditional drummer who plays as part of a royal ensemble. I met him yesterday at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi.

I gave him my camera to make pictures of me behind his drums. Impressed, I asked him to take the camera for a spin. His engagement with his subjects and compositions were very impressive.

I saw myself in Andrews. We barely realize our potential until we are given access.

I have dedicated my Instagram account today to share Andrews’ photos. This is however the final image from Andrews I will be posting. Good evening!

EHALAKASA SLAM III

Last month witnessed three more slammers qualify for the grand final of the Ehalakasa Slam Series set for November this year. Natty Ogli, akotowaa , and Slimo who qualified last month have joined Elidior the Poet,100%  pj100 , and Emmanuel Akambo who qualified in May this year.

The Ehalakasa Slam is open to all, it encourages poets to compete as a means of raising the performance bar as well as promoting poetry to the masses. Registration is done via email. Aspiring poets should send an email to ehalakasa[at]gmail[dot]com or reach out to us on any of our Social Media platforms to begin the registration process which will, during the process, require their name, telephone number and social media contacts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr). The fee to participate in the Ehalakasa Slam is GHC 15. There are only ten slots available for aspiring slammers. Registration is only finalized on a first come first served basis.

Check out our social media pages in the coming days for more information about the Slam. All are encouraged to use the hash tag #EhalakasaSlam2015 on social media when discussing the event.
