i feel really bad for mitski and the fact that the audiences who keep showing up to her shows don't have enough respect for her, or her craft, that they're calling her "mommy" and other names she doesn't like. they're interrupting her performance to be, overall, inappropriate towards her. to the point where she has stated multiple times that she doesn't like it, even calling out this behavior during her shows, and it won't stop. i don't know what this is a product of (poor concert etiquette, maybe?) but i find it veryyyy unfortunate

you know what it feels like kinda? like these people see mitski (and artists like ethel cain, even phoebe bridgers) as concepts instead of people. again, i don't know if it's projection, or fandom "silliness", or simply lack of respect in return for a viral moment (being disrespectful and recording it to gain attention on tiktok or twitter or whatever) but i wish it would end!!!

this is your thanksgiving reminder that the chinook tribe is still fighting for federal recognition, which means they are unable to access programs and resources. please take some time today to sign their petition and donate if you’re able to. and if you live in washington or oregon please write to your elected officials.

and another reminder that the quileute tribe (the very real tribe that was featured in twilight and received no compensation) is still located in a tsunami zone and is trying to move to higher ground. please consider donating.

it’s thanksgiving aka a GREAT day to donate to the wampanoag/wôpanâak language reclamation project. for those of you that don’t know, the wampanoag were living in the plymouth-area long before the pilgrims arrived and still live in massachusetts today. however, the number of native speakers in their language is very low and they need more supplies to teach new generations.

fun fact: the words for moose and massachusetts come from wampanoag

problem: people assume that I’m non-binary just because I’m a woman with a shaved head. This is a reductive harmful and widespread approach to gender identity that people need to grapple with and work on.

Answer: you are having a Smith College Problem. If you live anywhere in the world that is not the dorms on a women’s college campus you won’t have this issue. If you lived anywhere else in the world you would be having issues like sure hope I don’t experience hiring discrimination for being a woman with a shaved head. Sure hope I don’t get called a slur on the street for being a woman with a shaved head.

Problem: when a character gets a love interest of another sex people complain because they headcanoned them as queer and now they’re confirmed straight. This is an erasure of bisexuality becuase you can date other sexes and still be same sex attracted because you’re bisexual.

Answer: you are having a Smith College Problem. You’re not critiquing reactions to a student film festival. You’re critiquing reactions to very main stream media funded by corporations who want to make money at all costs. This corporation is not trying to give you nuanced bisexual representation. This corporation is cutting gay readings off at the knee because when it did the coin flip on whether or not pink dollars are worth it the answer was no.
