As you know, advocacy is a big part of what we do in social work. There’s been a lot of talk about this at my agency, and in order for our hospice (and other hospices) to continue providing top quality care for patients and families, we need all the attention this can possibly get. The Senate Chronic Care Working Group is considering a policy change that could potentially undermine the Medicare hospice benefit. If you haven’t looked into this yet, I encourage you to become informed and reach out to your senators.
Happy New Year, folks! Starting a new photo blog for 2016.

So beautiful.
Winter finally came.
Sleet, snow, and freezing rain. Oh, my.
Powered through the work day like a champ. It’s #subaruweather.
What’s new in my world?
I realize I suck at this whole blogging thing. So here, have an update and catch up with my life.
- I’ve been offered a newish position within my agency. After working on the admissions end for a year (and carrying a small case load along with that), I’ve decided to move over 100% to the field. This is so exciting as it aligns with my goals and I get to follow more patients/families. At the same time, it’s bittersweet. I’ll miss working with the admissions nurses, and they remind me how much they already miss me.
- I’m getting married in less than 5 months. My wedding dress has arrived and alterations begin in March. Hoping this will kick my ass into gear when it comes to eating better and exercising consistently.
- Which means I’ll also be moving, but don’t know where yet. My fiancé is finishing up med school and we’ll find out where his residency is by March. Which means that’s when we find out what area we’ll be living in. In the mean time, I’m looking into how to go about getting my social work license if we’re moving to another state and I’m even researching PhD programs because I may go that route too.
- I’ve come over to the dark side and got a Mac. My fiancé got me an early birthday present...this awesome MacBook Pro! First official post on it. And I’m still learning how the heck to use it. Motivation to blog more?
- And in a week, I turn another year older. I can’t believe how close I’m getting to 30. All the feels.
And that’s about all I’ve got for you. What’s new in your world?
HEART AND BRAIN IS OFFICIALLY MY OTP
Recognizing the chaplains at work for pastoral care week. Love my hospice team. :)
Aw, shucks!
When people you worked with in the past work elsewhere and are now trying to get you to come and work for them. I feel honored and truly appreciated, but I’m so happy with where I’m at now that I don’t ever want to leave. :’) Maybe I can do some good and pass on the word to anyone who may be looking for a new opportunity. If anyone happens to be looking for work in the Chicago burbs, let me know!
Crossed off another state on my race list: Michigan! Ran a half in Grand Rapids this morning. A fast and beautiful course.
Officially finished my first Chicago marathon, making that marathon #2! Loved the lively towns and all of the support along the way. Can't even tell you how many high fives I got while running. Ran for charity and had a blast along the way.
Chicago marathon ready! Ready to crush 26.2 miles! Got to meet Hal Higdon at the expo! (If you have no idea who that is, he's the runner who created my marathon training plan.)
