@graceebooks
you have asked before for calm and reasonable discussion of certain fandom trends and issues. your stated goal of many of the things that have ended in storms of bullying in the sherlock fandom and spiraled out from there has been the protection of minors and rape survivors.
however, the ways that you conduct these discussions and endorse the conduct of your friends have made these sorts of discussions impossible and have directly harmed minors and rape survivors.
bullying a minor because she has a molly fashion blog is not protecting minors. bullying someone who has engaged in clear and productive discussion about her kinks and her impact in fandom does not protect rape survivors. creating an atmosphere of shame, terror, and silence does not protect minors. endorsing your friends vellium and ivorylungs recording and posting a video of a rape survivor crying at a con and sharing her personal story without her consent–saying ‘yes, post it’, and then continuing to this day to condone it–does not protect minors or rape survivors.
promoting yourself, a self-profession 30-something lawyer, as minors’ “fandom mom” does not protect minors. refusing to examine your own actions that bully and scare minors does not protect children. positioning yourself, a straight woman, as incapable of homophobia–unlike those OTHER people to your followers–protects nobody.
making gotcha-style posts that are essentially dressed-up versions of 'so when did you stop hitting your wife’ does not protect minors or rape survivors.
endorsing a friend’s view that her reading fanfiction resulted in her abuse continuing–essentially blaming herself–does not protect minors or rape survivors. conflating fiction with reality and calling people pedophiles for writing a pairing that you like with the 'wrong’ character on top does not fight rape culture. trivializing pedophilia and rape as things that happen when someone ships johnlock wrong or writes a fanfic of fictional characters doing things to other fictional characters does not fight rape culture.
what you have done is make people leave the sherlock fandom, others refuse to join, and even more people back off from the canon itself. what you have done is create a conspiracy theory so vicious in bullying others that its name gives minors and rape survivors panic attacks.
what you have done, you personally, is make several people so afraid of discussing with you any type of issue at all or even mention your name that they go on anonymous memes in order to discuss things like your fetishism of trans men, your bullying of minors, and the way that you interact with young people that makes them afraid.
doxxing people solely to hurt them does not make anyone safe. endorsing doxxing, filming people without their consent, and ageism does not make anyone safe.
bullying people over a fictional ship makes no-one safe.
the end result of you and your friends’ actions is that people feel they cannot discuss the issue of whether or not they can or should protect minors online, and how to do so.
the end result is people conflating rape survivors who may be triggered by material but do not endorse wholesale censorship (like the way you and your friends have said that no-one should write any underage ship or fic that deals with rape and abuse, except for fawnlock–a form of babyfur) feel that they cannot express their feelings without many disclaimers.
the end result is that people feel they cannot ask others to tag things or tag their fanworks appropriately, because they may be found and bullied by you and people like you.
the end result is that people do not feel safe enough to discuss issues in fandom like bullying and triggering fanworks and fandom trends.
the end result is that discussions are not taking place and people are not producing what could have been fun, entertaining, thought-provoking, cathartic, shame-healing fanworks and meta because they are scared of you, because you piss them off, because they do not want to wade into a wankstorm and be doxxed.
if you are upset that people are unwilling to be associated with you, then you should first understand why.
i am to afraid to post this on my main blog. i am afraid of you and the people who follow you. you and your friends, who scream for receipts and then say that the ones we have aren’t good enough, because an anonymous source lacks validity. but the receipts are there, and i hope that the people who are truly interested in making this fandom a better place read them and make up their own minds.
(To everyone else in the sherlock fandom: the only way this is going to improve is if every single person who is not actively supporting the bullying puts themselves out there, puts themselves between Gracee’s crew and whoever the current target is. If every time the dozen or so core members of the bully group so much as raise their heads about anyone, they meet a wave of people willing to post unanon support for the victim and disapproval of the bullies, then they’ll stop. When there’s just too many people willing to split the pain among them, when the community of bullied is more cohesive and visible than the bullies. standing up to bullies is terrifying, but ignoring them doesn’t work. it only leaves their victims more isolated and vulnerable, and leaves our community in its current state.)
