Warnings to everyone, Hiveswap and Homestuck fans alike, the assholes from over at the Homestuck discord have finally gotten a tumblr ( @homestuckhiveswap ) and are trying to reach out here. If you already have heard about them then you’re probably fine but incase you’re unaware it’s just a bunch of disgusting 4channer or redditers who have no sense of morality when it comes to some things (not all of them but a good majority). There’s a reason that people from WhatPumpkin ceased interacting with them after their leader says things like this quite often.

The last thing being in reference to a discussion about editing the genes of fetuses to turn them straight.

And you don’t need to take my word on WhatPumpkin hating him, you can take his own word too.

All in all this guy is notorious for hounding WhatPumpkin employees and then trying to play the victim when they stop finding it funny anymore.

If you have an iron stomach then you can step in but this guy is one of the main reasons the fanbase lost touch with the content creators, tread with care. Also if you’re triggered by any slurs then that place is probably not the best for you to be, he doesn’t care about that shit and actively encourages people using them without care.

I haven't touched Tumblr in a while but I couldn't in good faith let this post go unanswered; never before have I seen a more grievous misrepresentation of a community in my entire life. I am a channel moderator on the large Homestuck & Hiveswap discord server where these quotes are taken from. I am also bi/pan and nonbinary trans. I have never, during my time on the team, endured any animosity or discrimination of any sort. While we do try to provide a forum where people can express their opinions regardless of what those opinions may be, obvious trolling and hatespeech is something we condemn strongly, and ban if we see it. If we feel that any one user is being targeted on account of something that is out of their control and/or part of their identity, whether it be their race, sexual orientation, or whatever else, we make sure to quash it as soon as we see it or it is reported. We understand that providing a forum where sensitive topics are available for open discussion may make certain people uncomfortable or upset. This is a difficult balance to strike, but we do our best to make sure that discussion remains comfortable while keeping topical restrictions to a minimum. Because of our lean towards the former, certain topics are quarantined to #serious, and potentially offensive shitposts are quarantined to #altgen. Generally it is inadvisable to peruse these channels if you have any bad triggers. As far as Makin goes, you have only to look as far as the (probably being sarcastic) after his username to understand that he does not expect to be taken seriously much of the time. He enjoys baiting people and being facetious, and occasionally—often, rather—he goes overboard and needs to be checked. I can't claim to defend the things he has said, but I can confidently speak to the fact that many of Makin's ostensibly problematic quotes that can be discovered on the server are things neither he nor anyone around him actually believes. While this behavior is arguably a problem in and of itself (often when he says something of this nature, large arguments ensue), it can not, and should not, be used to judge the moral fabric of the server and its denizens. Let me emphasize this once again. Makin, though he is the server owner, does not represent in any regard the server or the larger community. You may wonder, then, and rightfully so, why he's still in charge. It is because Makin, if nothing else, is an incredibly effective leader. Irregardless of his bizarre actions and mannerisms, he has managed to cultivate and curate the largest centralized Homestuck/Hiveswap community, even as people steadily lost faith in Andrew Hussie and What Pumpkin through the months due to their egregious lack of communication with their fanbase. That he is seen as a villain, in particular by WP, is really rather unfortunate. He has flaws which he refuses to address, certainly, but conflating these flaws with being a hateful or mean-spirited person is unfair, and generalizing this to everyone else in the community is not only innacurate but hurtful to those of us who are there because we genuinely enjoy discussing WP's works. Contrary to popular opinion and dramatization, the server is not actually full of Makins who go around saying dumb things. The only other moderator I would have pointed to as an issue is no longer a moderator. Please feel free to join here (you'll need a Discord account) to get a sense of the genuine, unperverted server dynamic. I guarantee that you'll discover that the community isn't full of 4chan-browsers as the original post states. Though I wouldn't reccomend looking at #altgen if you want to stay sane. I welcome anyone to send me a PM on discord (my username there is ost) to further discuss this.

On the future of Homestuck fan music projects

Wow, two posts in one day? amazing

So, currently there are a number of groups to make HS fan music - the LoFaM “team”, Fresh Lemon Studio A, Team Virgo, and the Ancestral team.

I (Lambda) have spoken to some people from most of these groups and we’ve decided to merge things and make a single large group for future fan albums, largely because these teams’ albums were all releasing on the same Bandcamp anyway.

This group is being based in what is currently the LoFaM4 Discord server, so if you’re not already on there and are already involved with any of these projects, message me on tumblr (@xzazupsilon) or on Discord at Lambda#0419 for an invite. There will be a process for other applications further down the road, once we get actual album projects sorted out (i.e. once we’re less busy with LoFaM4 organization).

Overseer v2.5 is canceled - Announcing Overseer 3

It’s with heavy hearts that we have to announce the cancellation of Overseer 2.5. As you know, not long after v2 was released, we incorporated, intending to make other games.

During the last year and a half, we made constant attempts to contact What Pumpkin for affirmation that our new standing was acceptable with them, and get clear permission to continue developing the fangame.

Unfortunately, we finally managed to get in contact with a member of the Hiveswap team, who put us in touch with the people we needed to be in touch with. After waiting a reasonable amount of time, we’ve received no response despite knowing that our messages were, indeed, read. After consulting with our legal team, we’ve come to only one conclusion - without a response, continuing Overseer as a fangame is simply too dangerous in regards to us being sued*. As such, Overseer 2.5 is canceled.

However, all is not lost - a good portion of the existing team is staying on board and being promoted to TOP Staff proper - and we’re making v3. Overseer v3 will be our own intellectual property, allowing us to do anything we want with it and - we think - make a much better game where we have freedom from constraints. More details will be available soon, but we didn’t want to keep you guys hanging on this, because it’s a massive shift in what we’re doing. (Note: The “v3″ part is tentative, and may be replaced with an actual word thing.)

We completely understand that this will disappoint many fans - and perhaps even cause some to leave. If you’re one of the people leaving, we wish you all the best, and sincerely thank you for your support over the last few years. For everyone else, we hope you stick around, and that you’ll be as proud of us for v3 as you are of v2.

Please note: Barring legal intervention, v2 will be kept online until, at a minimum, the release of v3.

Edit: Looking over the post we feel that we should probably clarify here that our concerns are far more than simply being shut down. Were WhatPumpkin to decide to sue us, even if we won the case, the company would be forced to go bankrupt from court costs, which would ruin the company owner’s credit score and legally prevent them from starting another company (or at a minimum make it far more difficult.) The only way we could have continued the project both safely and as a fangame would be to find someone else unrelated to the company to host the game on different server, and there is nobody who is willing or able to make that 75$/month commitment. (And they would have to pay for it out of pocket. No donations to help cover the costs.)

Team Applications for FLSA now open!

Now that the team managers have been assembled, it’s finally time to open up the doors to anyone who wants to join, be it as a musician/composer, an artist, or as something else entirely (please specify in the form). We encourage everyone who might be interested to apply, even if you don’t consider your work “good enough.” Our goal is to foster a cycle of feedback and improvement within the team instead of having submissions be a strict deny/accept for a given album/project. We plan mostly to put out fanmusic albums for Homestuck and related content, though there is certainly room for us to explore other mediums (such as YouTube videos).

Applications will be open indefinitely (yes, they’re still open!), and you’ll likely be contacted within a day with an invite link once your application has been reviewed. Discord will be our primary forum for communication, so please make sure that you have a Discord account and will be able to use it before applying.

FL Studio Adventures

FL Studio Adventures is a Discord-based fanmusic team primarily for MSPA, Hiveswap, and other related works. Though there are other major Homestuck fanmusic projects out there (namely LOFAM and Team Virgo), one of the founding principles of FLSA is to provide a community of musicians with possibly more than one project in production at once, much like how the Cool and New Music Team is currently structured. Our goal is not just to make good music, but to have fun doing it.

Applications for managerial positions will come first. All applications will be carefully considered by ostrichlittledungeon. Once the manager team has been established, applications to join the team as a composer or artist will begin. These will be reviewed by the relevant managers. We won’t be too strict. If you can make decent music, you have a good chance of getting on the team. Most of the quality control will be done during the album process.

Make sure that you will be able to regularly be on Discord before applying!

The role descriptions for managerial positions are as follows:

Muse of Sick: Project leader (currently ostrichlittledungeon). Vote doesn’t officially count unless a tiebreaker is necessary. Manages management team applications. This position is not open.

General Manager: Handle server invitations, manage channels and roles. Should also manage the spreadsheet and bandcamp, along with other things that I’ve likely missed. Will be weighted towards someone I already know and trust, but still don’t hesitate to apply if you think you’re good with administrative stuff. This position is open!

Music Manager: A member of the judging panel. Judging will be on a scale of 1-5. Should have a good ear and significant musical background. Will have to give feedback on tracks on the spreadsheet, and should be around to give feedback and generally be a mentor in #teachmeyourways. This position is open!

Art Manager: Will organize art for tracks once they’ve been voted onto the tracklist by the music managers. Will also organize album art. Should be around to give feedback and generally be a mentor in #teachmeyourways. This position is open!

All managers will, and should, enforce the #rules in chat. Each manager will have exactly one vote in major decisions (for example, new album ideas).
