“ oh, there you are !! ” pepper laughed lightly as she felt the other engulf her into a sweet hug. the redhead seemed to be all smiles and for one reason alone. her rosy cheeks gave it away and the glassy look over her eyes. pepper was indeed drunk. and this was the first time in years that she had been so. in all of her years, she just indulged in one glass of wine or so just because she needed to be on her toes. but tonight was HER night. the redhead brushed her fingers over her friends arm as it was wrapped around her midsection. “ are you having a good time ? i know i’m all over the place. ”

They were still on the way home from Wakanda, sitting on the plane, when the news hit them. Fury and Hill were gone too. One by one the list grew, each of them like a new stab in the heart and with every additional name Natasha’s fear grew. She held her phone in her hand, her finger hovering over Clint’s name. She wanted to know he was fine, hear his voice reassuring her that he was still hear. She didn’t want to face reality when she would call and he wouldn’t pick up, eventually letting her call go to the mailbox. She couldn’t take his death too, not Clint. Not her best friend. Locking her phone she decided she was not yet ready.
Tony was also still missing. They didn’t hear from him and only got his last know location - heading to space. Once they landed, Natasha didn’t want to be alone and there was one place where she could go… Where she needed to go.
“Hey, Pepper.”
it was h a r d to cope with. pepper called tony when the thanos incident occurred and she heard his voice fade from the phone and the connection disappeared. her heart shattered into a million pieces and she swore that there was no one that would be there for her in her time of desperation and need. as she spotted natasha, pepper felt a few tears form in her eyes. of course, of all people to understand... natasha would. even with the rift that was caused from that stupid civil war... she would be there for her. pepper felt no different towards her; loved her always, in fact. and all she could do was feel her lower lip quiver once she heard those words. “ natasha, i-- ” was all her mouth could form before a sob fell afterwards. “ where is he ? ”

a wave of RELIEF came over the redhead’s face as she felt her shoulder slump. the slight tension in them had released. ❛ oh thank god– sweetheart, i know i’m not with the times and everything but whew. ❜ it was hard to know what her daughter liked these days; or even who she liked. but pepper tried.
