so like. is spn fandom just gonna pretend j2 didn't make a rape joke in the context of a fan asking about pick-up lines and just continue to worship them? because i gotta say. i am feeling sick and hella uneasy about all of this. i'm not even fucking surprised. if you don't know what i'm talking about: https://babe.net/2017/10/30/jared-padalecki-and-jensen-ackles-are-cancelled-for-making-a-rape-joke-at-a-supernatural-convention-19145

billie joe armstrong is like…the definition of chaotic good. a prime example of this is the fact that one time at a green day concert this guy in the pit was harassing a young girl so billie stopped the show to help her. however, his way of doing so was to jump into the audience, dropkick the guy directly in the face, and then fight him in a crowd of screaming fans

This is missing the best part - when he saw the guy, he tried to be like “Dude, stop” and when the man didn’t stop pushing the girl around he screamed “Fine! You wanna fight? I’ll fucking fight you, then!” and leapt directly into the crowd

This weekend was amazing. I met new friends, had even more incredible experiences with Jared and got my favorite photo op in the world. Unfortunately, the very last thing I experienced leaves me heartbroken. While waiting for some friends to get their Jared auto (and having a clear view of him which was great to start), I watched someone tell what must have been a very personal story. Jared came around the table and hugged the crying girl for a long while, got down to her level and spent longer than he needed to speaking with her. I am not sure what she said, and I’m sure it meant a great deal to her, but Jared was not prepared for it. He immediately after went out through the doors behind his table, his handler said he need a breather, and came back a little shakier with red eyes. Make your own assumptions or don’t, that’s not what this is about.

This is about treating these people who you don’t /actually/ know, as close very personal friends. Yes, we are all the SPN family. But family is supposed to have /each other’s backs/. Not just one side. Please please do not just dump your stories on Jared or Jensen. Everyone has stories that would mean a great deal to them if they were able to tell J2, I’m sure. But these conventions are neither the time nor the place. To truly be a family, in my opinion, you have to listen and respect one another. Which not only means others fans, but the actors so many claim to love. Listen to what they are telling you. The stricter rules apparently set forth by Creation?? We’re not just implanted for no reason, they were not last minute decisions, something that came about for no reason. They are because the actors are having a more and more difficult time during these conventions, because some fans just won’t listen. I wish I could say this weekend ended on a high note for me, that I was left with nothing but joy and content. I really do. But I’m not. And I’m not upset for me, I still have all the wonderful and happy memories from this weekend. I’m upset for Jared. Because I was about to start crying seeing what he had to go through, just seeing the look on his face, how he started to go through the remaining autographs a little quicker. It made me feel disappointed. A little disgusted. Please respect the other part to this so called family. Please. I only witnessed what happened, and I feel so much like shit that I can’t even begin to imagine what these actors must go through, hundreds of times over.

I apologize for this getting rather long, I just needed to share my thoughts.

I’m sorry you had to have your own experience affected by someone who felt her story was more important than everyone else’s experience; more important than Jared’s feelings. A while back - before Creation completely stopped individual J2 autographs because of this issue- I posted an entreaty to all fans to respect the rules that Creation had set forth, or we would all pay the price. Those rules were not followed, and so we permanently lost the individual J2 autographs. My own for SeaCon were refunded. I was not a happy camper to say the least. I love the fandom, but this issue has made me lose a lot of the warmth I had for it and has really affected how I view and experience conventions.

Thank you! Luckily for me, it’s easier to remember all the good from this weekend than that one moment of bad. I’m so sorry you had to suffer the consequences of a few people!! I have been foruntate enough to be able to avoid moments like these at cons, and up til now have been nothing but a weekend of crazy fun. While this could never stop me from going, it does cause me to worry that j2 will one stop conventions completely because of incidents like that. And while I would rather they stop doing autographs or even stop conventions if they need to take care of their mental health, I really don’t want it to get to that point. Unfortunately, I don’t see any ways to avoid it because there will always be those people that believe they deserve more.

I don’t think J2 will ever leave the conventions because there is way more good in it for them too. A few inconsiderate ones don’t negate the thousands of considerate ones. But even dealing with the good ones is exhausting for Jared, I’m sure! I didn’t mean to sound so negative - it was late last night and I couldn’t sleep - but I was also remembering my own experience at VanCon15 when I made him laugh in autos and not two minutes later someone made him cry and leave the table. Jensen had to go comfort him for several minutes. I have to say that upset me a lot. That being said, Jared will still come back for more because he loves the fans so much. We are all incredibly lucky! :)

You’re probably right, there are many more wonderful, caring fans that outweigh the few stressful ones. And I definitely agree with you that j2 truly loves the fans and love being able to interact with them, I hope they continue to do conventions for as long as they’re able!

this post bothers me so much?? y’all are making assumptions about the conversation between jared and the girl. yeah, I agree, don’t act gross and embarrassing around celebrities, bc they’re people too, and don’t try to push them past their limits for some weird fandom obsession. be respectful. but at the same time, they, just like fans, are people. it’s human nature to want to share our pain, to reach out to others for comfort. it’s basic instinct. and I know I complain about customers treating me like a therapist when I don’t get paid near enough, but we’re fragile creatures. I feel better when I help people, when I support them. it gives my minimum wage job meaning. at least three customers, if not more, have told me about the loved ones they’ve lost. they don’t do it out of selfishness. they do it out of necessity. jared padalecki is a grown ass man. if he was uncomfortable, then he wouldn’t have spent so much time talking to her and he definitely would not have hugged her. she isn’t responsible for his reactions. she shared something that seemed to be deeply emotional and personal, and it made him cry. doesn’t mean it was a bad interaction. y’all are making assumptions and disparaging this girl because you’re afraid of losing access to jared. that’s selfishness. have compassion.

I understand that people look up to these actors, I understand that more than anything. I get wanting to tell them how much they mean to you, how much of an important person they are in your life. And maybe you’re right, maybe it didn’t bother Jared at all and he was just being the kind human he always is. But in my opinion, no matter how much you love an actor or someone you look up to, if you don’t personally know them I do not think it’s right to tell them a heavy, sad story in the manner of a few minutes. I love that Jared comforted the girl, that’s not my issue with this at all. (I would also like to point out that while yes, Jared is is a grown ass man and he could have sat there and told his handler that is he uncomfortable and to please make her leave, can you imagine the backlash if he had? Also, he was uncomfortable, in my opinion. He literally immediately got up to go take a moment to compose himself after he was done comforting her).

And, I’m not afraid of losing Jared. I’m afraid that these interactions will lead to another breaking point with him. I’m afraid that these kinds of things will make him hurt, will leave him upset and wear him down. Would I be disappointed if they stopped doing conventions, if I never had another interaction with Jared in my life? Yes of course. I love being able to meet him and interact with him. But honestly? If he decided that not doing conventions is what’s best for him(or if any of the cast decided that) I would understand. I would accept it.

dude. dude. dude. dude. dude. my dude, just because the interaction was uncomfortable and awkward for you does not mean that it was necessarily uncomfortable and awkward for him. it is, ime, extremely common for people to tell total strangers their life stories/struggles; this is a naturally occurring, very normal thing. is sharing/not sharing personal shit with a stranger the “right” thing to do? who the fuck knows. i sure as shit don’t.

and there are far easier, gentler, more tactful ways to get out of a conversation than turning to someone and saying, “remove them.” the guy is not an automaton. he’s a dang human being, and he’s not gonna be up all the time. it is your opinion that he got up and left for a moment because he was uncomfortable, and it is my opinion that you are superimposing your discomfort onto him. stop assuming that he responded in the way he did because he was pressured into it.

dude, acceptance of jared padalecki no longer doing conventions is not the same thing as not being afraid that it’ll happen. like, what’re you gonna do besides accept it? what would there be to do? nothing.

kids, when you’re choosing your college schedule, you’ll hear a voice saying “just take the 8AM class. it won’t be that bad. you’ve done it for this long” that’s the devil talking
