glimpse
if you were a dream
i would have
stayed asleep
if you were exhalation
of sighs escaping
i would have
stood where
i could see
my breath
atop cold mountain
to catch one
last glimpse
of you leaving
if you were a
memory i would
have etched you
black beneath
pale skin of
my inner wrist
carried in
my veins
like poison
like oxygen
like pain
if you were
anything it
was this:
story left unended
lives left upended
rifts left unmended
maps smudged
with fingertips
traversing wishes
inscriptions
never read
aloud
and kisses
at cliffsides
where we still hang
in the air
