hello, friends!
as you can tell from the url, this blog is now an archive. Over the next few days, I will be working on setting up a fresh blog, deciding on how i want to change or maintain my characterization, and generally getting back into the swing of things.
once everything is set up, i’ll post a link to the new blog and get things running again!
if you’ve got any questions, let me know. i’ll be here and lurking for much of the evening, and generally around a lot more very soon.

Are ya still there?

hi, anon! that’s an excellent question, that i’ve been thinking a lot about recently.
what i think is going to happen is this: after i’ve got my schedule for this term figured out, i will be re-making this blog. the current ectoplasmiic (aka where this is now) will be archived. the new blog will be a fresh start: certain developments in her characterization will be carried over, and any specific relationships that are discussed with me between now and the new blog starting. drafts will be dropped, because it doesn’t make much sense to continue threads that i abandoned months ago.
alternatively, if my schedule turns out to be too busy or i can’t revive the character after all, i’ll make an official retirement announcement.
i’ve missed roleplaying, and especially the community here, but it’s also been very nice to have a break from the internet. hopefully, i’ll stick around this time. but even if i don’t, know that i have absolutely enjoyed every second i’ve spent writing stories and building characters with all of you here, and if you ever want to chat with me or need an ear to listen, i’m here!

Well that silence was not at all worrying. Danny took a couple more beats, swallowing down nerves as the wind tossed through. He wondered whether or not he should say anything more, give more details, or wait for Danielle to speak, but after a while the silence was getting to him:

“‘Elle…? You need me to come get you?”

He could probably figure out how, with portals, or by borrowing the Infimap again…

His voice, oddly muffled across the phone, broke through the ice coating her mind. She started to open her mouth, reassure him. She was fine. This was good. This was what she’d wanted ever since she’d found out who Vlad really was.

Instead, all that came out was a strangled wretching noise, as shock overrode her ability to do anything at all.

The heaving fit lasted only a minute, but left her, small and shivering, curled up against the wall of the alley.  She swallowed, shoving the lump back down her throat, leaving just the taste of acid behind.

       “---y-yeah. C-can you? D-do that, I m-mean?”

“No, nothing like that,” Danny said. If only it were that simple. He picked at a stress in his jeans, swallowing his voice steady: “Vlad’s been in an accident. He’s dead.”

After a moment to let that settle, and maybe taking a moment to feel it out himself, Danny grasped his kneecap, looking aside. “He came back as a ghost, but he’s lost his memories. I don’t know if he’s ever going to get them back.”

She froze. As far as she was concerned, the entire world froze. She couldn’t hear the nearby traffic anymore, or the movement of people minding their business in town. She couldn’t feel the warmth of the sunlight streaming between buildings, or the cooler breeze that blew a piece of trash in a circle nearby.

Vlad was dead.

No, not exactly. Vlad was a ghost. Full ghost, now. With no memories.

The man who’d created her, then thrown her away, was gone. He’d probably never be back.

She was free.

She was going to be sick.

“Okay, solid. I… kinda have some big news. Are you in Amity Park still?” he asked, drawing one leg up and adjusting his hold on the phone. There was an angry voice kicking him in the head to stop drawing it out and get on with it already, but hey it wasn’t every day he had to be the death crier. Sue him for wanting to show some tact.

“Nuh uh. I’m in... well, I’m not sure, act’ly. I was gonna go to Chicago, but I think I got a little mixed up. Why? Y’need help kicking some ghost butt again?”

She didn’t exactly like fighting other ghosts, at this point. The further afield she traveled, the more she questioned whether it was ever necessary. Danny’s stories suggested yes, but it still made her question. There were so many empty places, and so many different kinds of people.

Something in his tone of voice, though, told her that this was about something else entirely. He always had stories. Not news.

     “What’s goin’ on?”

she shrugged, thin shoulders rising and falling in a half-hearted gesture. how could she possibly explain to anybody, much less a total stranger?

other people got birthdays. she got “day my dad almost but didn’t quite kill me”.

      “—s’nothing. Don’t y’have other people t’check on?”
