Clear as a day...

"Today was my first day back from maternity leave and nothing could have prepared me for the emotional rollercoaster. I was given one n95 mask to use all day and was told I could only go into my patients room 3 times if possible to limit use of PPE. This is down right impossible in the ICU setting. I was lucky to find the last pair of goggles which I will also be reusing for the next couple of weeks. As I expected, all of my patients are positive for the virus. However, I was not prepared to be taking care of a young mother who struggled to breathe and cried for her 10 month old daughter at home. She was alone, suffering, and scared. As a mother, my heart ached for her as I thought of my own son at home and how I would feel if I couldn’t hold him every night. I’m lucky I was able to pump twice at work but the anxiety of exposing my 3 month old to the virus now is a grim reality I may have to face. Things are scary now, but what will happen when we run out of supplies altogether in a week? This is a scary time for all of us. Please keep these sweet patients in your prayers and all of the hospital staff working day and night to fight this virus. Most importantly, please stay home folks and practice good hand hygiene. We all need to help each other out now more than ever." (📷: @vivianalacubana via @mother.ly)
