Surely we are forsaken, For what loving God would refuse us the Gift of Typhlosion
"Wow this 70s song is so catchy, I wish it wasn't about being a nonce"
idk man i think that if you can read dozens and dozens of trans men talking about how their support systems abandoned them when they started getting too masculine on T or had top surgery or whatever, and queer spaces started treating them like threats or potential predators, and you find these stories going back to the 90s or even earlier, and you read all of that and come away thinking that there’s nothing wrong with how progressive communities treat men, you are just fundamentally beyond help dude. you don’t see us as people
barbie is not an "anti man" movie at all. it's so obvious to me that the kens were written like idiots not to call all men idiots (well... maybe a little) but instead to show how easy it is for someone to get taken advantage of. it's important to remember that while the barbies and kens are played by and written as adults, they function in the real world and overarching narrative as adolescents that don't know very much about the world.
reading ken as a young boy, he's initially nice to the girls around him (if insecure, lonely, and feeling pretty disrespected) but as soon as he steps into the real world, he sees all these men who feel very secure in their masculinity and self-assured, and he wants that for himself. he falls into the trap of the patriarchy much like a lot of young boys in real life fall into extremist right wing ideologies. but ken's insecurity never really goes away, it just gets covered with faux fur and headbands and country music. it's why he cries and admits to barbie that leading was hard. he never really wanted to hurt the barbies at all, he just wanted to feel confident and accepted by everyone, but especially barbie.
ken was never the problem by himself. he wasn't made into the world hating women. he was manipulated and turned into a misogynist by society.
Imo, The mindset of the modern American reactionary is that of the estranged parent. It's a person who cannot allow themself to understand that yeah, they were a shit parent, and their kids aren't talking to them because they were a shit parent. It's the two-time wanna-be small business failure who cannot allow themselves to believe that they failed, and that there may have been consequences to their choices.
I think it has something to do with why transphobia is the popular cudgel now. This idea of the "trans cult" that took their kids away gives shape and form to the storm of negative emotions in their life. Its something to focus all their emotions on. Comparing trans people to pedophiles gives them the justification they need for righteous anger. By framing their anger as "you were keeping them safe" it allows them to feel like they were right all along.
anyways (I say this as someone who is deeply critical of the united states government, military, unchecked capitalism, police, etc) I am SICK of people treating america as if it has no cultural value or positives so….. you have to start to scroll away and then come back and reblog this
happy that we're raising awareness but you can't make a post about this without mentioning that they collaborated for the sole reason of combining their last names like this
Big fan of all those other purple links and how “Associated prime” is untouched.

Anti-voting rhetoric will be the death of the left. Literally.
Not a single fucking Republican voted to protect roe. It was fucking overturned in the first place bc trump got three Supreme Court appointments.
Every fucking thing wrong in this country is almost certainly the result of Republicans being in power. In 2020, Texas cut half of the polling places in black neighborhoods, and doubled them in white ones, regardless of population. It was Republicans bitching about mail in voting, and constantly, constantly fearmonger about voter fraud. Literally, their platform is about making civil rights harder to practice.
Would you like to know why? It’s because Republican politicians know better than anyone that higher voter participation means higher republican loss.
But what do I see from the online left, champions of the oppressed?
“Voting doesn’t do anything, the parties are the same, the system is rigged, etc, etc”
Don’t sit here and tell me you give a fuck about marginalized people if you aren’t ready to march your ass to the voting booth and vote out the party actively stripping their rights away.
Protest, donate, community build, unionize, and vote, vote, vote.
The thing about midterms is that abortion bans or maintaining rights are now up to the discretion of states.
Everyone is talking about Republican state officials putting bans into effect.
State Democrats can do the opposite.
My home state is EXPANDING abortion rights, setting up legislation that will shield protections from outside interference.
Forget Biden*. He isn’t up for re-election in 2022. Do you have an on-the-record pro-choice Governor? Senators? House reps? Local judges? How about proposed legislation?
THOSE are the people you’re going to be voting (or not voting) for now, this year, 2022. The people who you will need to demand action from.
There are Democrats out there at lower levels (state & local) who are far more committed to maintaining reproductive rights than Joseph R. Biden. Do you know who they are? Look them up!
Even if you firmly believe the two parties are not meaningfully different in general (which I personally don’t, but that’s irrelevant), one difference is that Democrats do not vote a perfect partly line against abortion rights. Find pro-choice people in your state and lobby the shit out of them. And if you find people who are on your side? Yes, fucking vote for them.
Things are fucked at the federal level right now, but they’ve been passed to the states. Republicans are rushing to control states rights and keep their stranglehold on power. Resist, do it actively, because the bullshit voting rights restrictions mean we need every last one that people can manage.
*Not as in “don’t hold him accountable”, as in “don’t refuse to look at your state and local candidates because he’s fucking up”.
Fucking vote.
The right got here by voting.
If it wouldn't work, they wouldn't be trying to stop you.
Telling all men that they are irredeemable trash with no hope to improve is not actually how you dismantle patriarchy.
It's how you make men stop trying to improve, because they're convinced they can't.
It's how you shit on queer men and keep perpetuating the idea that queer masculinity is predatory and gross.
It's how you keep trans men in the closet, suffering in silence because they don't want to "betray" womanhood.
It's how you silence men of color trying to talk about the ways they're marginalized and seen as inherently more aggressive.
It's how you steamroll over disabled men trying to access care.
It's how you tell fat men that their struggles with fatphobia and medical neglect aren't worth attention.
It's how you tell abused men that their struggles aren't real and that men can never be victims.
It's how you tell marginalized men that they deserve to be treated badly because "man" cancels out the need for human dignity and kindness.
It’s Pride Month and you know what that means
