The Stanley Hotel -
The hotel that inspired Stephen King’s novel The Shining, the Stanley Hotel was even the filming location for The Shining television series. It is also as haunted as its fictional counterpart. Opened in 1909, the hotel it situated near the Rockies in Colorado.
Most of the ghostly activities in the hotel focus on the ballroom. Many members of staff and guests have claimed to have heard a party going on in the ballroom late at night. When they enter the ballroom they find it completely empty. The piano in the ballroom is also prone to playing on its own. Many believe that the piano is being played by a ghost called Flora who was the wife of the man who built the hotel. She was a piano player when alive and one of the main reasons why the hotel was built. Her husband has also been seen wandering in various locations around the hotel.
In one room guests have awoken to find a man standing over their bed. He stares at them for a few moments before running into the closet and disappearing. In this room guests have also seen the closet doors unlocking and opening on their own. The same ghost has been blamed for disappearances of jewelry, watches and luggage. In various other rooms in the hotel guests have seen figures simply standing in the middle of their room before vanishing. Phantom children have been seen and heard playing in the hallways of the hotel. The hotel ghosts even provide housekeeping services in some rooms, as guests have reported being tucked into bed by spirits and finding that their luggage has unpacked itself.
