remember in School of Rock where the black girl was afraid to say she wanted to be a singer because she was fat and didn’t want to get laughed at but Dewey was all “who gives a shit, I’m fat too and so is aretha franklin but we’re still valuable and we rock” and then the girl felt better without having to be told that beauty comes in all sizes or some other bullshit. thats the kind of body positivity I’m looking for. tell these babies that they’re worth a damn without tying it to any other arbitrary ideals
Also like. when she asks him why he isn’t on a diet. and you just know she has heard this dumb “tip” a million times before (“just go on a diet!” “if you really apply yourself you can easily use x amount of weight!” “you just don’t want it enough!”)
& Dewey just
there’s nothing wrong! with liking food! and being hungry! you don’t need to starve yourself to fit into some bs aesthetic! eat food!
Also that he cited a fat black woman singer specifically as it was the black girl who asked. gave her a direct representation of someone just like herself instead of citing anyone else

Anthony: Damn it, Colin. You had one job
Anthony, sighing: what did you do now
Colin: um I might have said some disparaging remarks about Penelope Featherington and so to get back into her good graces I offered to help her find a husband
Anthony: goddamn it colin. it seems Penelope got you good for your remarks but that seems like a reasonable agreement—
Colin: that's not all
Anthony: THERE'S MORE?!?!?
Colin: i kinda figured out that i'm in love with her and we kissed but she's courting with the intent to marry LoRd dEbLiNg
Anthony: shit
Kate, listening: shit
Colin: i know

They were all absolutely infatuated with him and whispering about how much they wanted to pet him and then shushing each other saying “no that’s rude you can’t! just leave him alone!” so I told them they can pet him if they want and they were absolutely overwhelmed with happiness, while simultaneously being very concerned for his well-being, continually asking if I was very sure that it was okay and that I should please please tell them if I need them to leave him alone.
Basically, it was a great ending to a VERY long day. Sometimes people are really great.
the composition here is honestly close enough to a medieval painting, and just fuckin beautiful in 2138908 ways, that i think we can go ahead and hang this in a museum, thanks
i saw your art on twitter, it's very good but the fact you have minors following you while you draw literal witches ("creatures" practicing m*gic) is REALLY iffy
it's over. 17th century puritan philip wittebane has found my tumblr at last. sorry i failed you general
“And so he had told himself that what she felt wasn’t really love. It had been easier to try to convince himself that she was merely infatuated with him, that she didn’t understand what true love was(as if he did!), and that eventually she would find someone else and settle down into a happy and contented life.
Now that thought—that she might have married another—nearly left him paralyzed with fear.”
Just woke up and saw the trailer!
Based on what I saw I do believe this is going to be the friendship portion in the first half as they come back together and open up to one another a bit more. They said the word enough for me to believe it. Which in my opinion is actually good for them to fix their foundation before pursuing further.
Also it seems like friendship will be a recurring theme not only between polin, but Eloise as well. I don't particularly like the Eloise and Cressida friendship but I think in the long run it will be good for both. We get Cressida humanized a bit find out the why potentially to the mean girl. Eloise, who is trying to over correct after her falling out with Penelope gets much needed exposure to the thoughts of women who aren't going to automatically agree with her. Though a part of me wonders if Eloise is going to fall in the role that Penelope had in her friendship in her attempt to over correct and becomes a soundboard for Cressida.
We'll also potentially see other friendships between Penelope and the other Bridgertons which I like. We've been subtley shown before Penelope is seen as family by the other Bridgertons now I hope they actively show it by letting us see their interactions. I'm particularly interested in our two introverts and see how they compare and contrast. Francesca most likely will be thrown into the spotlight due to her being a Bridgerton while Penelope is trying to bring herself out of the shadows.
Francesca herself, I'm also excited to see since she's been off in Bath the last two seasons pretty much. Most likely, we'll see her be named the diamond, but unlike the last two, she is more than likely going to be uncomfortable of that title due to her quiet nature.
Colin's relationship with his family is another thing I'm looking forward to. The brothers teasing as Colin gets dressed in carriage. Eloise and Colin potentially getting closer as she attempts in her mind to protect her brother from Penelope. I'm hoping I'm right about my theory of them pairing up the siblings based on birth order and we get to see a close bond between Colin and Francesca.
I SEE MY GIRL GENEVIEVE DELACROIX! Can't wait to see what she gets up to this season. I hope she gets to make some of her own designs come to life. Plus another friendship/partnership I'm interested in seeing where it goes if they do develop it further. Gen is one of the most genuine relationships Penelope has right now where they both have been shown to let their down their masks around one another via their voices.
Prudence and Harry got me dying too in that one clip with the grapes. Based on what we've been shown of Harry so far I think he'll be good for Prudence. He seems so sweet and apparently a himbo. I think he'll soften some of Prudence's prickly edges.
Portia's acknowledgement and pride of Penelope's success on the marriage mart. OH I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS RELATIONSHIP! I'M GOING TO BE SO ANNOYING ABOUT IT WHEN IT FINALLY COMES! IMAGINE IF WE GET A REVERSED PROPOSAL SCENE WHERE PORTIA IS TRYING TO GET COLIN OUT OF THE ROOM BECAUSE SHE THINKS PENELOPE WANTS TO MARRY DEBLING!
Also the candle symbolism about polin and it be the guiding light towards their love. Penelope's is burning bright, her love for Colin as strong as ever but she's putting that off to the side to grab hold of the freedoms marriage will provide her. Meanwhile Colin's candle has the barest flame before it flickers to life. There's been feelings unacknowledged for a while now but he can no longer hide from them.
Though now I'm curious about what Whistledown will be doing in the background. They hid her at least for this part.
Penelope and Eloise (and Marina!) are such interesting characters who’s interpersonal situations are truly grey and I think that who’s “side” fans tend to lean toward really depends on whether or not they ascribe to the individual or the greater good.
For me, I obviously lean more towards Penelope’s perspective. This is because, as much as understand and sympathize with Eloise’s feelings of hurt and betrayal, I also see so many of her comments and actions as ignorant and willfully naive. She does things without fully thinking through the consequences, putting both herself and her family at risk. !BOOK SPOILER START! In her story, this is literally the cause of her marrying — she decides to run off ALONE to a man’s home whom she’s never actually met without telling her family, leaving herself stuck in the situation where she has to marry him not only to protect her own reputation but also that of her entire family. !BOOK SPOILER END!
Marina was very much the same in season 1. I sympathize with her perspective, and while I don’t think her actions were as naive as Eloise, I think that she was so focused on trying to grasp the best option for herself that she refused to acknowledge that by doing so she would absolutely ruin BOTH the Featherington’s and Bridgerton’s with a scandal much less recoverable for either family than the one penned by Whistledown.
Meanwhile, the reason that I agree more with Penelope over the others is precisely the reason anti-Penelope fans dislike her. She is fully knowledgeable about the potential consequences of her actions. She considers all of the angles and tries to find alternatives, and even her most controversial decisions are made with such tangible regret that we see her sobbing on screen multiple times, but they are decisions that she makes the way she does because they limit the damage to all parties involved as much as possible. Now, could she have done things differently if she thought bringing in someone to her secret was an option? Absolutely! But she didn’t think it was — something that, given what we see of her home environment and how her friendships are largely reliant on her supporting the other individual, makes sense for her character.
Anyway, all that is to say that I think people who tend to view these scenarios from the perspective of the individual also tend to agree with Eloise/Marina, where as those who tend to view from the perspective of the greater good also tend to agree with Penelope.
Philosophically speaking, neither perspective is “wrong”, but I don’t know that everyone contributing to the conversation fully understands that, which is where we get the black and white hot takes that blatantly attack these characters as awful people.
Excellent way of saying this! I agree completely!
