okay to people with or who have had dobermans:
-where would they spend the night (outside in a dog house, inside, inside in a kennel, on the bed, that sort of thing)
-how were they with strangers (both people you don’t know on the street and people that you’re friends with but they haven’t met yet coming to your house)
-how did you get yours (pound, breeder, etc) and what was the general cost if you remember
-were they good around smaller animals (like,, cats and maybe a small-to-med sized dog)
might think up of more later stay tuned folks
Heyo! My Dobe is almost 2 so I figured I’d share my experience too!
- As doberbutts said, they’re an indoor dog 100%! My boy sleeps in bed w me, but has free range to his crate and several other beds in my large room.
- I’ve been told Enzo is a little unusual for a Dobe- he L O V E S strangers, ESPECIALLY anyone coming to the house who shows him love. He’s the dog who stares down people at the pet store silently demanding they pet him. If they do, they get that sweet curl and a good lean from him. Though I’ve noticed as he’s matured, at a little over 1.5 years, he’s starting to not want the attention of all strangers (thankfully) though he’s still insanely friendly and does ask for brief affection from most people I talk to. That’s not to say he hasn’t been stand offish/growly/barky at strangers too! I’ve had ~4-5 people Enzo just did NOT like the feel of, on walks and in pet stores, and has started growling/barking at them without being interacted with.
- I got him from a (basically) BYB breeder, paid about $1500.
- He’s great with small dogs and cats, though he’s a little too enthusiastic to play w cats (much to their dismay, we’re having to work on ignoring them bc he likes to play bow/bark at them LOL). Guinea pigs and reptiles he’s fine with, but squirrels, rabbits, moles etc? Will kill if he gets ahold of them.
