Yes, I did mean those icons! :) How do I use them, and where can I get them? Thanks again!
journey-tan : I’m sorry for taking so long to reply to this message! But I’ve been really busy. I use icon fonts from WeLoveIconFonts and they’re easy to use, here’s a small tutorial of how to use them.
- Go to WeLoveIconFonts website.
- Select a font, and click on add. Then click on Use 1.
- Go to Customize in a new tab, then click Edit HTML, and find (it’s almost at the top of the code).
- Now go to back to WeLoveIconFonts website, copy the text that appears there, then paste it under .
- Now you have to look for the text of the links you want to replace, for example, the links might look like this:
- So, the text you need to replace is the highlighted part, so delete it, and type .
- Now, go to WeLoveIconFonts again, and look for the font you used. Click on an icon, and look at the text that appears at the bottom of your screen:
- Copy that text and paste it between the quotes like this: . Then click on Update Preview and it should look similar to this:
- Then all you gotta do is keep replacing the text with the span thing, and that’s it! :)
Btw, you asked something about changing the color of the icons, well, you can do it if the theme has an option to change the color of the navigation links (most of the themes have that option lol) so you’re going to be able to change the colors with no trouble!
Message me if you have problem! I hope this was helpful! :)
Hi! So I read your FAQ, and I really want to learn to code. You said you used some tutorials, so I was wondering if you could give me some good links.
That’s awesome! Learning to code was one of the best choices I ever made, it’s so much fun. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but I’ll give you some resources:
Overall Guides
- tutorial base code (mine)
- How To Make A Theme (lostmemento)
- Making A Custom Theme (tumblr page: really helpful especially if you don’t use a base code!)
- Guide to being an awesome Theme Maker (ettudis)
- How to make a simple theme
- Ultimate Theme Making Resource
Some Basic CSS (Styling)
- Basic Codes (hollywhood)
Additional Scripts & Fun Stuff
- Putting a reblog button on your posts
- Random Sidebar Image
- Post Effects (Grayscale)
- Hover tags/info
- Shapes In CSS (creds to Nery for showing me this)
- Audio Post Styling
- Pop Out Pages
- "Return To Top" script
- Border Radius Generator**
- Transition Generator**
Fonts
That’s basically all I can think of on the spot, but if you need anything else or have other questions, feel free to ask!
*some of these are tutorials that I have used, but some of them I haven’t tried to they may be too difficult or have faulty codes!
**generators are great when you’re first starting out, but you won’t learn to code by using them. I recommend that you copy/paste one code from a generator and then every other time you use that code in the theme, force yourself to type it out so that you understand it!
Links to Help You Start Coding by azurethemes/salazhar In honor of opening my theme blog, I thought I’d make this post on learning how to code since many people ask where/how I started coding. This is not a tutorial on how to code a theme, but a list of resources on how to start learning HTML and CSS.
UNDERSTANDING HTML These websites are the one I used to learn and understand more about HTML and CSS.
- Code Academy Code Academy teaches you HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, and more interactively. Their tutorials are great for anyone of any age. This site is my favorite and I definitely recommend it.
- w3Schools w3Schools is what I like to call my online glossary. It has literally everything you need to know.
MAKING TUMBLR THEMES There are many great tutorials here on tumblr on creating your own theme. Here are a few:
Tumblr has also provided us with a document on creating custom themes and I suggest going through it.
USING BASE CODES If you wanna start coding themes, but you don’t know where to start, I suggest using a base code. I have a masterpost of base codes here, but you will want to use base codes that come with instructions like these two [ one | two ] so it’s easier for you to customize and understand the theme.
CONCLUSION Again, this is just a list of resources to help you begin coding your own tumblr themes. I will release another resources list with more external links that provides you with tutorials to make your themes even better. This one is just to help you start out.
Please like/reblog this if you found it useful. If you have anymore questions on coding, feel free to ask me!
