Hey guys let me tell you about advance fee scams

I hope y'all are familiar with these in this day and age, especially my artists out there, because they're incredibly common.

About half an hour ago I posted a drawing and tagged it #artists on tumblr, and very quickly received this comment.

My scam radar went off immediately, due to the generic blog name and lack of any emotion in the comment, but I decided it might be an entertaining venture so I dmed them. They asked for a drawing "of these", and sent me a random selfie. I got the details and told them it would be $15, and they promptly offered me $300. At this point I know it's a scam, but I play along for funsies and give them my paypal. Shortly, they send me this image for "confirmation" (I blocked out my email)

And they began to insist that I checked my email. I looked in my spam folder and found the following email.

This is fake. This is not a thing. And the "you're to refund the $200.00 back" is the scam. They send vaguely official-looking emails at you to "prove" that they sent you the money, then have you send them $200 (or however much the scam is for). Then, surprise surprise, you're out $200.

I continued to play along for a bit, and in the second email "Paypal" told me that I had to refund the $200 before they could "credit the $300 to my account", along with these lovely threats.

And yeah, it's silly. But it's not silly if you don't know and get scammed. So. Spread, please! And thank you very much to @mlaurel for the opportunity to get these screenshots.

This is a variation on a much older scam that often results in the victim being out money and also out whatever they were selling. It goes something like this:

- victim posts an item for sale on craigslist or w/e

- scammer contacts asking if a check is ok

- scammer then asks if they can write a check for more than the agreed-upon price and for the seller to give them the overage back as cash, often with some excuse about it being an out-of-state bank, they don't have a card and need some cash for something else, or whatever.

- scammer gives check, gets cash and item, and bounces

- guess what the check does, too

ANY kind of structure where you supposedly get money but have to give some of it back to someone should twig your scam radar, frankly.

Reblogging because some people need to refresh their scam radar, or start building theirs. I see far too many people fall for traps, and don't dare say for a second "this will never happen to me" because all it takes is a momentary lapse in judgement.

As someone who was almost scammed recently as I was doing an anti-scam awareness thing for work (everything turned out fine dw!!)

You are not immune to scams. It's not just old or dumb people. It could be poor timing, you could be tired or it's just a scheme you didn't know about yet (that's me hi!!)

Don't victim blame. Don't assume people know. Consult people around you and don't succumb to shame. We are stronger as a community

If you're using gen AI because "you want to make art but don't know how/can't learn/it's easier/whatever"

You don't want to make art.

You want someone to make art for you, but you don't want to pay or exchange anything of equal value for it, and also you want it right now, in whatever style you fancy that moment, and in whatever quantity you want. You're greedy and entitled and it is just that simple. You don't want to make anything.

We really went from Ghoul School with an amazingly diverse cast -all of the ghouls AND all of the Calloway cadets had different body types with no jokes made about them.  The cadets had 2/3 non white cast.  In the end there was no unnecessary romance between any of the characters…

to Reluctant Werewolf in which Shaggy is given a girlfriend whose advances he ignores for half of the movie before I guess the animators figured out that that it was supposed to be a mutual relationship?  She mostly just states what has already happened and while she does sort of play an important role in helping him win the race, that role could have been filled by one or both of the Doos instead.

Unless the reviews from the previous two movies suggested that they NEEDED a female counterpart, I really don’t think she was necessary.  And if they did, I think they should have just brought back Daphne.

Overall, a disappointing follow-up.

There’s no point in adding Googie into the picture, other than: look Shaggy is an amazing racer (which makes no sense)  and a cool guy with a cool cheerleader girlfriend! My stance is they wanted to make him look like this badass race car driver (maybe it was a promo piece for nascar)? Also what’s the deal with referring to the hunch bunch as monsters? It’s like, people with hunches exist in real life, ya really wanna be calling them monsters? xD Daphne as a racer ftw! Suits her the best in the gang.

I don’t dislike Googie, but she’s not necessary and I wish she was better written if she had to be there.  I have trouble placing this movie in a timeline not because of the monsters, but because of Shaggy being a racer seeming really OoC to me.  Gym teacher?  Sure.  Race car driver?  …what?

Vanna Pira wasn’t really a monster either, except the implication from her name.  She was just weirdly sexy for a Scooby Doo character.

Googie is alright but there’s no point in her existing other than to be a supporting cheerleader. But I really like the way her name gives a reference to the whole googie style. To be fair Shaggy and Scooby have had many different careers through the show …so who knows? They’re pretty versatile.

Wellp, guess we needed a comic relief dumb sexy girl ,right? Which reminds me of how many people like to sexualize the ghoul school girls. I remember reblogging one fanart of them and went to check out the source. Turns out, filled with ghoul school girl fetish pics. It just bothers me… they’re literal children. I especially notice Sibella is the one who’s most present in those kinds of fanarts. It disgusts me tbh. But I went off topic here.

Also, why did Dracula have green skin? Weird flex…

Listen.  The sexed up Ghoul School girls is absolutely disgusting.  I despise it so much.  It’s so gross.

But like, Daphne and Velma for the majority of the franchise are maybe a couple of years older than the oldest of them and yikes.

I just want to destroy anyone who thinks it’s okay to do that to not only underage characters but any characters that are directed to children.  Cause children are going to search them and find that.

I mean, green skin has traditionally been used for monsters and the undead?  I think Dracula being purple in GS was weirder.

i went in to get a bra fitting today and I had a big conversation with the woman who runs the boutique i go to about her advice for trans women re:underwire bras and fittings, so I'm gonna pass that along!

she said that underwire bras aren't typically made with trans women's' ribcages in mind, but that if you have smaller boobs a soft bralette or sports bra is totally fine. it's also possible that bras made for drag will fit, but she wasn't sure how helpful that would be and neither was I, since we're not talking about a boob plate here. i was asking on behalf of some of my friends who have naturally big boobs after horomones though, and she told me that if your breast tissue feels unsupported or you're getting new back pain that you think is coming from there, your best bet is to get fitted at a small boutique, and that there are higher band sizes that you can try.

I told her some of the girls I know are scared to do this and she reccomended to have someone call the place for you and ask outright, being upfront that you're nervous about it, and then base your decision on how they react. but also that most independent bra stores are probably friendly because they're being run by hippies. At a chain like victoria's secret or something they're not going to carry higher band sizes at all, plus you're never gonna be able to tell who you'll get at a chain, so she recommends calling a smaller place where you can really get a read on the people there from talking on the phone.

I hope somebody finds that helpful!
