It’s barely a whisper, so muted that Castiel thinks he imagined it. He pauses his reading and looks around the library.

Dean is seated across the table from him, brow furrowed as he pores over a book of ancient occult spells. The room is quiet except for the low hum of the lights, abbreviated by the occasional rustle of turning pages.

Castiel let’s his gaze linger over Dean’s face a moment before turning back to his own book.

Kiss me.

It’s louder this time, and Castiel’s head snaps up. Dean doesn’t react.

“What was that?” Castiel asks.

“Hmm?” Dean replies, eyes still fixated on his book.

“Did you say something?” Castiel asks, carefully. Dean glances up at him.

“Nope. Didn’t say anything.”

“Oh,” Castiel rubs at the back of his neck. “Sorry. I thought I heard—“

Kiss me.

This time, Dean’s voice comes through clear as a bell, but his lips remain closed in a tight line, unmoving. He looks at Castiel, concern written on his face.

“Hey, man. You okay?”

Castiel swallows down the lump in his throat. He watches Dean track the movement with his eyes before coming to rest on Castiel’s lips.

Kiss me.

Castiel doesn’t want to believe what he’s hearing, doesn’t think it’s possible. But Dean’s internal voice is steady and earnest and so full of yearning that there’s no mistaking what he wants.

“Dean.”

“Yeah, Cas?” Kiss me.

Castiel moves forward, elbows leaning on the table, his face coming to rest inches from Dean’s. He hears Dean inhale sharply, and watches as his eyes go wide. Their breath mingles in the finite space between them, invisible sparks electrifying Castiel’s lips.

Kiss me. Kiss me. Kiss me. Kiss me.

“Kiss me,” Castiel whispers.

And Dean does.
