The Pinewood Philanthropy Club is a student-run organization at Pinewood High School in Los Altos, California. The club’s mission is to make a difference in the community by raising money for local charities.

This year, the President of the Club, Allison Beers, raised $480 by having its members use Pen & Ink on the iPad® to paint a Pinewood Philanthropy Club logo on coffee cups, water bottles, t-shirts and other items that could be sold at a reasonable price. By using Pen & Ink, members created a professional and artistic design that could easily be uploaded to CafePress.com, which customizes all types of products.

“This was our most successful fund-raising event ever!” said Allison. “The mugs sold out within the first week. And the kids had much more fun designing products to sell than they ever had with routine car washes.”

The Club donated the money to Downtown Streets Team, an organization that helps homeless people find employment.

Fashion designer, Camilla Olson, has seen her gowns, dresses, skirts and more on the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards, the White House, and fashion shows around the world. Women seek out her designs, which are classic, luxurious and one-of-a-kind.

Camilla begins her designs with a blank canvas from Pen & Ink on her iPad®.

Using the soft graphite pencil, she sketches various styles and patterns. With a pinch of her fingers, she can zoom in on her drawings to add intricate details such as buttons or lace.  The 25 unique brushes all have a very delicate touch, which is essential to fashion design.  By using a stylus and varying the speed of her brushstroke, Camilla creates thicker or thinner lines with different textures.  For example, she prefers the Sumi Brush for creating feathery wisps.

For her Spring and Summer collection, bright splashy colors are a must.  With Pen & Ink, Camilla creates her own unique colors from the color palette and then uses layers to create the perfect hue.

“I like to use innovative technology to create my pieces,” says Camilla. During art school, one of my mentors was the former textile designer to Alexander McQueen, Simon Ungless. I worked closely with Simon where I developed the iron transfer imprinting process, which yields a soft and unique effect every time. So, it makes sense that I would use the best sketching and painting app, Pen & Ink, to begin my designs.”
