Hey, do you know anyone with Ehlers Danlos syndrome who'd transition? I heard testosterone is actually beneficial for the condition, is that true?
@fanfckery does, and has! He might have some helpful insights.
From what I've been told and understand, it depends on your specific type of EDS. Testosterone can help with muscle development, which can help strengthen joints, but you also need to be careful not to overestimate your limits and overdo it.
Either way, definitely chat with a doctor about it if you can! A personal trainer or physical therapist knowledgeable in the condition might also be a great resource.
It can help to an extent with hypermobility.
Since testosterone assists in muscle development it makes it easier to build muscle mass. Stronger muscles can take stress off of weak joints which are prone to subluxation and/or dislocation.
But you still need to be careful when working out. The best thing to do is to talk to a professional. Whether that be a doctor, a physical therapist or a personal trainer. They can help you with proper form and to find alternatives when things your body doesn't like.
I actually had that happen the other day. My trainer was having me work on core, specifically doing flutter kicks. My hip didn't like it one bit and I only got two kicks in before I had to say nope and he switched me to something else.
The important thing is to be upfront about having EDS. Listen to your body and say something when there's discomfort.
