i want to slow dance to a steel guitar, echoing on the loudspeaker in an empty hotel ballroom. the wood paneled dance floor holds my partner and i while a disco ball flickers above my head.

i want to cry because i can't hold in all my emotions, my nostalgia, my blessings. not because this moment will disappear, but in spite of it.

in spite of the beautiful things that slip through our fingers and the awful feelings that linger, we still expend energy searching for that one hit of serotonin. euphoria. joy. happiness is not happiness unless you know true sorrow.

be grateful for experiencing sorrow, for the next day we will surely see joy.
