I know I said I didn’t want to see Urgent Care any more but we seem to keep meeting by accident.

TL;DR is that a kids hardcover picture book fell from a height on my toes while is was raised up on them and my middle toe turned blue was shaped wrong.

The radiologist has to take a deeper look, but the doctor says on initial examination of the x-ray there doesn’t look like a break. Buddy-taping, hard flat shoe, rest, ice, elevation.

I wish you came to my urgent care. Though I feel like none of us would bat an eye. Typical urgent care visit here! Complete with waiting so long, comparatively, for a gd radiologist that you wonder where they wandered off to.

so i have been spending less time shitposting like my life depends on it lately, and that’s because i’ve been busy reading the emperor’s edge (and some other books but mostly the emperor’s edge series) by lindsay buroker

i love them and they’re very good and y’all should read them so i have more people to talk to about them

the main characters are a gang of criminals seeking redemption

they’re a beautiful weird found family, bonding over things like counterfeiting schemes and nearly being mauled by monsters and stealing dirigibles and making fun of each other

also the worldbuilding is really interesting i know it says steampunk don’t believe it, it’s like. good steampunk. the entire reason it’s steampunk at all is because lindsay buroker didn’t know shit about horses and one of her betas was like “horses don’t work this way” and she was like “FINE THERE ARE NO HORSES THEN” and then decided this meant at least one world power would have to develop a transit system not based on horses and opted for steam powered trains, it rules

also there’s another series set in the same world that stars a very clumsy linguist being kidnapped by an imperial power to translate a foreign language no one knows and it’s the best book that’s ever happened to me, she keeps getting distracted from escape attempts by wanting to translate this thing

there’s a bit more to the horse story than that though this is a 100% excellent summary, and it WAS meant to be steampunk all along, as encrypted (the side series’ lead, which i actually love more than the main series and i have written over 400k in tikaya fanfic) shows – ‘steampunk’ being accurate without being the stereotype. 

(hilariously, i had to be told ‘it says high fantasy but don’t believe it, it’s like high fantasy but it’s actually good’ so this is CLEARLY also one of those terms that has to be put in proper context. annie’s audience isn’t into steampunk, mine – and i – is/are not into high fantasy.)

as in, it fits the literal definitions of steampunk without being what everyone EXPECTS, which is … victoriana. none of that. that, combined with “it’s like steampunk leverage and is heists and found family” is what finally got me to become one of the EE BNFs, from having my SO try to get me to read it and having no interest because he explained it badly.

everyone who loves EE manages to love it because of some ridiculous shit happening. in related news, the entire series is some ridiculous shit happening. however, all of my followers/friends ALREADY KNEW i loved these books i just saw this and had to reblog it because any and all love for my loves.

did you know that one of my friends is such a fan of this book series i’m reading right now that she literally wrote a spin-off book, and had my cousin edit it? TRUE STORY MY FRIENDS ARE GREAT (so’s fallen empire btw)

it’s important to add that the author of the original series basically press-ganged me into it with affection, and I beta-read the originals, meaning I did make a significant enough contribution to the main series that I knew what I was doing (most of the medical science and cyborg physiology is my work and I’m super proud of how well it has performed). 

also that a Starseer is a form of psionic. mine specializes in micro-telekinesis. 

people do hit others with fire extinguishers, and I learned in that process how hard that word is to type/spell correctly.
