An Egyptian ostrakon depicting a cat serving a mouse, circa 1295-1075 B.C., New Kingdom period, 19th to 20th dynasty. Now in the Brooklyn Museum.
The image shows some reversal, with the scrawny predator serving his plump prey. Other scenes like this from the same time period have also survived. The two theories about these depictions are: 1) it is possibly a popular folk tale of the time or 2) a satirization of upper-class life from the time period. Somewhat of a prototypical Animal Farm if you will.
