Anonymous asked:

Why do you often use the word "folk" in place of "people"?

I think we’ve been using both terms interchangeably for the sake of variety? Is there any concern over the use of either?

Captioned video explaining what Project Acorn is and how to apply!

*A few edits*

1. NEW EXTENDED DEADLINE for applications (TBD for now, but APPLY NOW!!)

2. Turns out the part I didn’t caption in the video that I thought I had to remove is still part of the application process! Make sure you don’t miss out on that!

Here is the caption for that part: “So that’s all the steps towards application. The application is really simple: you just make a little thing about who you are, why you want to come to camp, why do you think it would be a good thing for you, etc. There’s also demographic info (we need for statistics and to impress donors ;) ).”

It will say on the page that applications are due on the 28th, please disregard! We’ll keep you posted about when applications end!

We’re continuing to accept applications exclusively from people whose identities have historically been marginalized including black folks, people of colour, indigenous people, trans women, transfeminine people, women with trans histories, street-involved people, queerspawn, youth from LGBTQ+ families, sex workers, and people living with disabilities.

PLEASE APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (see link above)

Have you heard about Project Acorn?

Project Acorn is a radical community-building space for youth aged 16-24 from LGBTQ+ identities, families, and communities based in Ontario, Canada.

For four days, Project Acorn brings together youth and those in solidarity with youth and creates a safer, empowering, and liberating space, where people can share knowledge, make connections and build bridges.

The program is a mixture of workshops, speakers, typical camp activities and magic that come together to create the most mind-opening and mind-blowing program possible. We want to create space to challenge the ways we think about gender and sexuality, and we want to be at the front of this movement!

If you have any questions, you can ask them here! Don’t be shy!

Project Acorn applications are open!!

Project Acorn is guided by a Leadership Team, developed and delivered by a Youth Advisory Committee, and supported by Roots of Our Communities (ROC) volunteers. All volunteers go through an application, interview and reference check process.
We are committed to implementing a racially and ethnically diverse, queer- and trans*-positive, anti-ageist, gender varied, economically-mixed and multi-abled leadership body. If they feel comfortable doing so, we encourage applicants to self-identify in their application.
Our Project Acorn site is partially wheelchair accessible. Please feel free to contact us with further questions or concerns about accessibility/support needs pertaining to any aspect of the application process or Project Acorn.
