“I came here from The Netherlands, just like the early Dutch. Did you know Manhattan used to be called ‘New Amsterdam’?”

I did know that, yes.

“I’m probably the first cat to do that. I’m kind of a cat settler, I guess.”

You started a settlement in Manhattan for other cats?

"Oh, no. Just for me. Everything in this apartment is my settlement. If other Dutch cats want to settle here they’ll have to brave the plane ride just like I did.”

“Last year I decided to try sitting on every flat surface in the house at least once. I’m about halfway there. The whole thing feels daunting, but you have to set goals like that for yourself so you don’t feel like you’re wasting your life.”

Thanks! I've been very busy with a few other projects lately so I haven't had as much time as I'd like to devote to the cat photos. But I have some more going up soon, as well as more cat talk. Thanks for following! And I'll tell Arthur you're a fan.

“I’ve known a lot of cardboard boxes in my life, and I’ve loved them all, for different reasons. Each one taught me something different about myself. There’s a few I miss more than others, but ultimately I’m happy to have had each and every one.”

- Moxie, Upper East Side ASPCA

(The ASPCA is waiving adoption fees today! Head to the aspca.org/nyc or to your local ASPCA and get a cat, then give it a box!)

“A lot of people think we’re the same cat, or that we’re twins. But we’re just siblings. Born a few minutes apart. Turkey was born earlier, and she’s always reminding me. Like she knows better because she’s been around for a few extra minutes.”

- June & Turkey, Upper East Side ASPCA

"People say they ‘own’ cats or they ‘have’ cats, and quite honestly, I’d like to change that language. We have each other. So maybe when you’re talking to your friends instead of saying ‘We have two cats.’ maybe you say ‘We live with two cats.’”

“Yeah, but that kind of implies you’re paying rent too.”

“What’s rent?”

- Cheer, Upper East Side ASPCA

(Adoption fees are being WAIVED this Friday for the ASPCA’s Cat Friday, so you and Cheer can have each other for nothing! Visit aspca.org or call your local ASPCA for more info.)

"Two things I love: wet food, and having the tips of my ears rubbed. Two things I hate: flies, and people who don’t want to rub the tips of my ears.”

- Jacob, Upper East Side ASPCA

(You can adopt Jacob if you’re in the New York area! I’ll be posting a handful of cats I visited last week at the Upper East Side ASPCA. Get yourself a cat. You deserve it!)
