“Theeeere you are. Hi. Welcome back.”
Jon opened his eyes and was immediately suspicious. "What happened?"
Lake sat back, reaching for the nearby water bottle. “Best guess? Something in our drinks. And since you drank mine, it actually had an impact.” She gave him the water bottle and offered three ibuprofen. “You know, a guy as pretty as you should always be suspicious of drinks you didn’t order in a town you don’t know,” she chided with a humorous smile. It wasn’t too often she got to tell a guy a warning all men seemed to tell her.
Jon laughed before wincing. He took the ibuprofen and water and took a moment to guzzle it all down. "You think I would have learned as a sex worker, but I guess some lessons never stick," he chuckled. He stretched before drinking some more water. "Next time I wear that roofie nail polish."
"If it makes you feel better, I don't think they were trying to get in your pants." She reached in her bag, pulling out a small pen light. "Open your eyes wide." She moved the light across each of his eyes, watching how they reacted to the light. "Looks good. My guess is that they think we're here for something else. Unless they're really into chaotic fae. No one tried to intercept me when I helped you out of the bar." She shrugged, not wanting to overwhelm him with her curiosity about what could be going on that people would try to drug two strangers.

Lake snorted, stacking kindling, sticks, and logs neatly in the small wood burning stove.
"I think that will depend on what you have in your pack. I do have a sleeping bag in mine, but I'm not sure what you have in yours."
To be fair, Lake had the equivalent of everything but the kitchen sink in hers because she was trying to get more long distance practice with increasingly heavier packs. And in that was a collapsible bucket that could be used as a sink. Jon had brought a more modest (read normal/reasonable/sane) pack. Lake secretly suspected he'd done that in the chance that they had to switch at some point. But to be fair, knowing Jon, his pack could contain some very basic hiking supplies and all the components for a multi course dinner, his pack was always a source of surprise on their hikes.
Pondering past contents of his pack made realize Lake she was hungry. "Speaking of what's in your pack, any fun food surprises? I'm curious if you can top your limoncello ice cream drinks." She struck a match and watched the fire take, adjusting the flu to let it get as much as it needed. The wind outside was howling, so the sooner this got going, the better.
Jon laughed at her comment. He had a regular sized hiking pack on his back with his sleeping bag and a tent on top. "I can't do anything that fancy, although I did bring a small bottle of syrup for snow cones if you want one." He began digging into his bag. "I brought some spices and a small bottle of oil, little garlic, oh!" He pulled out a small Tupperware package. "Found myself a kimchi hook up in the St Lawrence market. I brought some to get your approval." He placed that aside and kept digging. "Medical supplies, compass, binoculars, some clothes, bag of all use washing powder, snacks." He pulled out a brown paper bag and saran wrapped home made granola bars. "Jerky and healthy stuff."
He paused digging through his pack to look out the window. "I have some stuff for a wire trap but the weather is too bad for that. Anything out right now is too big to hunt with something this flimsy."
Lake closed the door to the stove, letting the heat wash over and past her. The cold she could handle, but paired with high wind, it took a lot out of her, she was glad they'd made it to the tiny cabin.
The emergence of spice from his pack perked her up. "I can work with that." She pulled out a pan and some other items from her pack. The pan was placed on the stove with the oil quickly added. With no control of the heat source, it was going to be a bit a challenge. Quickly she added some of the spice, then several large handfuls of rice, letting it sauté for a bit. After two carefully watched minutes, she added water, eyeing the level against the amount of rice. A lid was placed over it to to let the rice cook.
She looked out the window, following his gaze. "I think between the two of us, we won't need to do any trapping. I've got some packaged fish for meat." Trapping was a skill she had, but one she hated to use. After another quick peak at the rice, she decided to follow his lead, emptying her pack. There were clothes, food, an assortment of camping items, notebook, pens, and a stash of chocolate. As she opened up her sleeping bag to let it expand, she noted the make of his bag.
"Hey! You've got the same brand, I bet the zippers match!" After a quick inspection, she confirmed the matter. She quickly zipped the two together, holding it up for him to see. "Being right about this makes me happier than it has any right to," she said, big smile on her face.

"Those info dumps have helped me with my job on more than one occasion. I love listening to your voice so it's never an issue for me." He chuckled at the story. "I would love to get lost in a museum with you one day. Sounds like fun."
Jon's legs tangled with Lakes when he felt her snuggle close. He held her tight, only pausing to pull the weighted blanket over the pair of them.
"That sounds like an amazing place. I would love to visit it sometime." He was quiet for a moment. "Sometimes I dream about a snowy plain. There's little spots of light where flames are burning, where my favourite people and things survive. But everything else is cold are dark and deadly."
She was somewhat awake but also the same level of asleep, that place where you might still talk with someone, but you don’t remember it. Lake had been told she was very unfiltered in those moments. Which was why sleeping around others seemed so vulnerable and was often avoided.
“It sounds like you’re dreaming of the spirit world. Do you ever dream of a doorway,one that’s the direction of the setting sun?”
"No. I've been told some people see the same when they meet my eyes. I think it might be me." He hummed for a moment, thinking. "How about you? Any doorways or weird spirits that you dream about? Should I activate the circle?"
"No, I don't think so." But maybe? "I dream of lots of things, but I guess the thing closest to what you described is when I dream of a lake, and there is a usually a jeoseung-saga there. Often, they push me in then pull me out on the other side. It's like those movies where a person falls into a mirror or some sort of reflective surface, breaks the plane, then is kinda of falling out of it. I'm never wet, I just sort of pass through." It was just another part of her life that was connected with the afterlife. She tried not to think too hard about it usually.
She yawned and stretched a bit, adjusting herself against him. "I should warn you, I sometimes drool when I sleep," she mumbled a bit more about someone teasing her about it in the past, but specifics were lost to his arm and the blanket.
Dash Commentary
If Lake woke up in Jon’s body, the second thing she’d do is go out and experience the world as a tall white guy. Do they need to figure out why they’re in the wrong bodies? Sure. But she’s absolutely going to try out as many things as she can before the switch back.
